My son got a 2002 Fender Stage 160 DSP 2x12 from a friend. The two power caps had bad solder points. I re-soldered them and it's got new life but it's still acting up. The one thing I've noticed that's weird is the Volume pot on the Drive side has a pull function for volume and then it sinks back into the pot and has restricted movement of only a few numbers on the dial. When pulled out the amp seems fine but when it settles back it goes haywire.

Is this the normal knob on this amp or did someone mess with it? There's nothing in the owners manual or the service manual to indicate a special volume knob.

Thanks.

I owned a Stage 100 DSP combo (identical chassis to the 160 DSP) for quite some time and it did not have that feature. I suspect yours has been modded, and not altogether properly.

I have a Stage 160 DSP of the same vintage and it is all original... I am the original owner) I checked it and non of the pots are push/pull types.

Thanks to you both.

The pot looks original so I'm guessing it got damaged somehow. Ordered a new one. I'll let you know if that solves it.

Actually, I got the new pot today and it works like a charm. $6 bucks and he's got a new amp!

Thanks everyone.
