Just ordered one to be a gift from my wife. I already have tubes, but curious about speakers. There are not a lot of 15" guitar speakers. Is the Jensen P15 worth it or go with a ceramic? Anyone tried a Warehouse?

Thanks all - Happy Holidays!

Really?

Fifteen's are available from virtually everybody and anybody who's ever made a musical-instrument loudspeaker.

Why not give the amp at least a quick listen before deciding to start changing anything?

+1 About the 15's, why not wait till you get the amp and see if you like it stock before letting others tell you how the amp should sound to you. You may like it stock, some people do.

I was going to buy a Weber Vintage 15F150. It is supposed to be equivalent to the Jensens that were in certain Ampeg amps. My amp had a loose preamp socket so I just sent it back. The stock speaker did not work for me at all.

I use Weber's in my 5e3 clone and my Champ. Really great sounding speakers. I have the 12A125A Alnico in my clone and a Signature in my Champ. The Alnico is stellar.

I put an Eminence Legend 1518 in mine and a 5751 preamp tube in V1. Major change in both tone and volume.

Check this out (starting around 3:15): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOsQqk4BHx0

As others have suggested, of course give the stock speaker a fair trial...some love the nasally honk taking you way back to some very old amps. Beware, the 1518 increases the weight of the combo around 10 lbs. (Close to 45 lbs. total!)

AND, this amp (w/ the 1518) hasn't met an OD pedal it doesn't like! Great Bluesy tones.

OK, OK... I hear you. What I meant compared to 12"s and 10", the selection is not as substantial. I mean, there are 10x as many 10s/12s vs. 15s from WSG, for example. But, point well taken, my friends.

Thanks for the note. I am looking at the '59 Sound from Weber. I just read a lot about popping in different speakers. I was leaning towards the Jensen P15N until I read more and more about the Webers.

Thanks a bunch. I played it for while out of the box... Popped in some RCA 6V6s and GE 5751s and was more than pleasantly surprised. I was curious about the Legend. IS that the same speaker Fender puts in the "Pro" version of this amp?

Eminence's Legend 1518 is voiced very similar to the OEM speaker they produced for Fender's now-discontinued Custom Shop hand-wired '64 blackface Vibroverb. It may in fact be the same speaker.

I really dig my Excelsior, such a great amp. After using a modeling amp for the last batch of years it feels and sounds great to be back to tubes! I have replaced the tubes as I had a microphonic one but I am more than happy with the stock speaker. In fact the more I play it and it breaks in the more I dig it.

If you really like the amp, I'd still go Weber over the Legend.
I would keep the stock speaker just in case you sell the amp, you could pop it back in and keep the Weber. I'm thinking about building a combo with a fifteen. Low wattage Class A 5-10 watt range. Anyone else that's looking for an amp with a fifteen, give the Peavey Delta Blues a shot. Pretty nice amp with a great track record.
