i just bought a Hot rod deville , i didn't test it out , now normally i don't do that but the price i payed for it was a steal so , but there's an issue with this one..

i was thinking perhaps a ground issue ?

or maybe the tubes ?

it only seems to do it at certain notes , the high or low e won't cause any of it but an open A or even a B on the A string will cause it to do this.

Speaker ? Tubes ? Or may be it is a bad resistor or bad / broken solder inside .

Could be a lot of things. Cold/fractured solder joints where the sockets meet the board, bad filter caps, tubes. How old is the amp? You may want a good tech to give it the once over and check the tubes, power supply, bias etc. The older Hrd series are prone to quite a few problems.

i may actually have found the problem under further investigation ,

i guess the guy that had it put new tubes in but never biased them , so the 2nd measurement was reading 89mv so i dropped it down to 60mv , besides that somehow they got the speaker wiring screwed up and one of the speakers had no ground , so i rewired all of those back to where they were supposed to be and it seems fine now.

Great! 60mv sounds pretty cold though. Did you check the plate voltage? I used to run my Hrdlx in the 80-85mv range with no problems, but I ran JJ's not Groove Tubes. The GT's didn't hold up at all. I check everything with a Bias Rite. You might want to look around inside and make sure everything looks okay, like scorched boards and components. Especially the 5 watt cement resistors. It might have just been the speaker connection causing the problem and not the bias. He may have biased the amp.

This is not a bias issue your problem.

Assuming approx 485 VDC on the Plates (common for the Deville), and 6L6 output tubes, 60 mV at the test point is a bit cold at just under 15watts idle per tube, so I would probably bump that up to about 65 mV minimum, and probably closer to 70 mV for my taste. 90 mV at the test point would be a maximum, idling at just about 21 watts.

If you are using 5881 output tubes, and you like the sound, 60 mV is probably just fine.

You have to open your amp and look if you don't see burn resistor or circuit printed.

Be carefull , lethal voltage in tube amp even it is disconnected
