Hi guys...I'm thinking about getting a Frontman 25r for a different tone and sound.

I don't gig, just play in the house.
I currently play with a VOX VT40+ normally, but want to play with a small cheapie.

Only issues I have from trying them in the store is the reverb is so weak and the overdrive really seems a bit crazy for lack of a better word.

I've been researching for days, and some people say that replacing the speaker will fix the buzzing and poor sound quality, etc.

What I need to know is the folloiwng:

1) can you replace the reverb tank to provide a better reverb depth and sound? If so, is it hard to do?
2) replacing the speaker....any good inexpensive speakers that would make a difference?

If I get one, I'm going to replace the tolex with either tweed or something aqua as i play surf. :)

Eminence Ragin Cajun is a common speaker swap (I have one in my 25R). I wouldn't waste time or money on a different reverb tank. Just use a good reverb pedal in front of the amp. I have a Boss FRV-1. There's nothing you can do to improve the overdrive sound except use a pedal. I just use the amp clean for a bright, clear tone.

actually just picked one up.

They said it was a V2 version...I don't know if it is, but it's red...and it actually sounds really nice! The reverb is MUCH stronger than I remember...and even playing surf I don't think I can play at 10 reverb for long.

The speaker is solid...I don't know if they changed anything in these, but it does sound good right now as it is.

We'll see if I have to change it down the road...and the red tolex is staying!
