Your Champion is not the same as the new Champion line.

I'd agree regarding yours though -- they are reliable and dependable units (one of the original "Dyna-Touch" series).

Hey Arjay {you old candle powered crumudgeon},

Isn't that old Fender "Dyna-Touch" the very same compressor ancestor to todays "Dyna-Comp" in modern day Fender Rumble Bass Amplification?

I do not know and thus, cannot say. But viable technology regardless of age or origin should never be ignored or neglected. I wouldn't be shocked at all to learn that Fender was recycling successful features from past models.

Well, depends on what you compare the Champion's reverb to. It actually sounded better than the short tank reverb in my Frontman 212R, but it does not sound as good as a classic, long-tank reverb such as what I had on my Blues Deluxe.

It is pretty good, but, you can dial in a better digital reverb on the Mustang V2's: there are several reverb models to choose from on the Mustang. The Mustang comes very close to the classic long-tank. Not exact, but very close.

The Champion has several reverb models you can select as well, but you cannot set the parameters as you can on a Mustang.

A mustang III V2 looks quite well to me. Maybe I should try that one too. Is a mustang a good amp for jazz?

Yes! If you get a Mustang, try downloading my Tal Farlow preset.

Hey I tried a Mustang amp at the store but for the moment I'm not really convinced. It's rather difficult to work with whereby I couldn't get a nice sound out of it. I tried tthe '57 and '63 twin reverb. Could you tell me which setting you use in your Tal Farlow preset so that I can set it like that at the shop?

I used the '65 Twin Reverb with the 65Twn speaker cabinet.

Bright=Up
Gain=4
Volume=4.5
Treble=8
Middle=8
Bass=1
Reverb=None
Bias -10 (dial position 11:00)

Post Gain Compressor (settings in "clock" position)
Level 11:00
Thresh 9:00
Ratio 1:00
Attack 11:15
Release 10:45

Modulation Diatonic Pitch
Mix 9:45
Pitch 1:45 (+Oct(ave))
Key 10:00 (Key E)
Scale 1:15 (Minor)
Tone 11:15 (44.1%)

The compressor is used 100% the time. I punch the Pitch shifter in and out as Farlow designed and used his own octave shifter in the 60's.

This may be hard to set up in the store without a computer and Fuse. Let me know what you think.
