Hi all,

Recently I've noticed that my amp does not produce any sound after my normal 2-minute waiting period of having it powered on and in standby mode. After switching off standby there is absolutely no sound from my guitar, hiss, hum, snap, crackle, or pop. However, if I leave the amp in standby mode for a good 10 minutes and then turn on, it gives me a tidal wave sound and then I can hear my guitar (after hearing the crashing waves subside, of course). The amp is circa 2008, I believe. I'm guessing this means I need new tubes?

Possibly a new tube set is indicated.

However, I'd first take a look at the power supply -- specifically the rectifier circuit and the filter caps. The electrolytics should charge and begin discharging almost immediately to produce the high voltage required to power each tube. If the HV looks good at the test points then check the power tranny's heater tap to ensure that it's generating the 6.3VAC that all the bottles require and ascertain the presence of that voltage at the appropriate pins of each tube socket.

You the man, Arjay! I'll make sure to run that by my tech when I see him this weekend.
