No worries.. I did find the answer to the question at hand. I was reading another post and saw that the person posted the link to a amps service manual. Made sense to look up the service manual for the Non-reissue blues deluxe. So on page 5 of the parts list is the description. This is the link and I found that the tank is a 4BB3C1B.. So I picked one up from Antique Electronic Supply 22 bucks shipped. I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it. And if the feedback issue is resolved.

Smooth. They're in Tempe so shipping to ELP shouldn't take too long.

Actually I'm in LA right now.. But yeah still shipping is pretty quick.. As I did order the MOD 4EB3C1B and 9EB3C1B to see what the difference in tone would really be.. Only to find out that they created Feedback. Lol! No worries.. This one will come in soon enough and well Learning is the name of the game.. Don't think it will be too much of a hassle to send them back or sell them.

Now I also did find that the Blues Deluxe REISSUE calls for the 4EB3C1B tank.. Reference page 9 on the service manual.

I wonder why they would use different tanks for the two very similar amps?

Possibly because the driver and recovery op-amps are different from the original circuit revision......?

When did you leave Ft. Bliss?

Man to be honest I've been gone for a few now... Since the last time you and I have spoken I did a tour in Afghanistan.. It's good to be home.. So when I came back my buddies have asked me to look at their amps.. It's all good fun and gets my mind off of other things and I love learning new stuff about all this stuff if you know what I mean..

Better than gettin' greased and RTB'ing in a rubber bag as "cargo".

True that!!

Hey quick question.. On this amp if the driver chip were to be swapped to a lower gain chip couldn't the other tanks be used? And with that it would be the OpAmps that would have to be changed?

Possibly, but I'm not familiar enough with the parameters of those chips to make that call. Shimmilou might be able to tell you.

Meanwhile, I hear "Taps" so it's time for me to pull some PMCS on my pillowcase.

Take care, troop.

And a hand salute!

 Maybe just a bit put off by squirrely troubleshooting technique, nothing personal.

Well, for the reverb tank, the second digit "B" is 150 ohm input impedance, whereas "E" is 600 ohm input impedance. It is usually important to match the second and third digits in the reverb tank to the amp circuit in which the tank is used, as well as matching the fifth digit which indicates the grounding of the input and output of the tank. If I understand correctly, you found that the mismatched tank impedance caused feedback.

I am not so sure that the TLO72 and the 4560 have different impedance, so much as different current capability, and I believe that the 4560 can handle more current. The circuits around the op amps are different between the two amps, and the 4560 might have been used, in conjunction with the different circuit resistances, to deliver a "stronger" reverb.

In the case of these two amps, changing the op amps to match the tank would probably not be all there is to it, the circuit and tank work as a system, although using the 4560 in place of the TLO72 would possibly be more tolerant of an impedance mismatch.
