Ok I am trying to see what is up with the reverb in this amp.. It has very little reverb effect until it is turned up to about 8 on the knob... I have clipped the filter cap and it really had no effect.. Found that it was actually the tank because I replaced the tank with the tank in my original 69 deluxe reverb and it had that really good and wet sounding super surf style reverb.. Switched back to the BDLX tank and it sucked again.. What is a good replacement tank for this amp? I am looking currently at the MOD tanks with long decay.. But thought I wanted to check with you guys before I made a purchase..

Ready.. Set.. GO!!!

If the tank from your vintage DR amp worked well, a contemporary equivalent should accomplish the mission. Look for a US-made Accutronics of the same input and output impedance and with the same grounding configuration. One of the medium-delay six-spring models will yield more of the vintage 'verb effect.

+1 to what Arjay said.

The tanks in the HRD/Blues series of amps come with either 2 springs or 3 springs. I'm not sure why some are 2 and some are 3.

The old Hammond tanks were the best. Those tanks are now made by Accutronics but the quality has diminished somewhat since the old days. Nevertheless a 6 spring tank will sound much more lush and full.

Part number: 9EB3C1B (6 spring long decay)
Part number: 9EB2C1B (6 spring medium decay)

Accutronics

" I have clipped the filter cap and it really had no effect. "

If this is the bypass lytic (from cathode-to-ground) --- clipping this cap will REDUCE the signal strength. If you want to increase the signal --- go to a bigger mfd cap (like 50mfd/50VDC, instead of 25/25 ). Actually, this changes the bass roll-off frequency. In general, more bass = greater signal strengh.

The reverb in the BDlx is not tube driven. It would be nice to know what the OP is calling "the filter cap", but let's hope that it wasn't any of the preamp tubes' bypass caps, which have nothing to do with the reverb.

It was R41 (1.5K ohm), that we clipped... Sorry for the poor description...

R41 is a resistor, not a cap. Clipping R41 would completely disable the reverb, you need to put that back in the circuit in order to have reverb.

Ok reinstalled that R41 resistor and there is no change in the sound of the reverb... So I know that it's not a resistor issue..

So, why are you screwing around with the circuit? Replace the tank and be done before you make things worse.

Ok I replaced the clipped resistor no issue there.. The circuit is back to normal.. Turns out that the reverb tank that was in this amp was someone's extra part that was thrown in the amp. Was a Belton 4AB3C1B. The resistance is obviously incorrect when plugged in there is little to no reverb effect even when reverb knob is turned all the way up. BMW-KTM suggested two tanks 9EBEC1B and 9EB2C1B would do the job nicely. I pulled the tank from my Deville which is a MOD 9EB3C1B tank and installed it in the amp. The reverb sounds super amazing! THE PROBLEM is that it gets serious feedback when the reverb knob is turned above 5. The guitar does not have to be plugged in for this to happen. I tryed various ways of dampening the tank as I have read in other posts and nothing changes the feedback issue.. I asked a tech buddy of mine about the feedback issue and he said its is due to mismatched impedance. How can I find the proper impedance for the Blues Deluxe Non-Reissue amp? Or does anyone know what tank came originally with this amp?

You may also have a microphonic tube. Maybe try replacing the 12AT7 reverb driver and 12AX7 reverb recovery tubes.

Will do. But I did not find any of the tubes to be microphonic. I also read online that the 4BB3C1B is a replacement for the tank... The problem is trying to find the correct tank... Who really knows the answer to what seems to be a million dollar question? Lol!!

Uh......it's a Blues Deluxe, not a Deluxe Reverb.

The BD's reverb is driven and recovered via op-amps.

:?
