So continue wondering about my Hot Rod Deluxe. When I play it at loud volumes especially on the clean channel I can hear a rattle in the amp. I called fender customer relations and they told me that is the nature of the amp (the guys at steve's music where I bought the amp have told me the same). Is this something that I just have to live with or is there a way to make it go away?

Thanks

Combos are prone to tube rattle.
Do you have the stock tubes in the amp?
The reason I ask is because, I've heard the worst tube rattle with the Sovtek tubes, though it happens with JJ's also. You can try getting some quality tubes and see if that helps. If you get a new set from a good tube dealer let him know what you are experiencing so that if the same problem arises you can return them.

Some amp builders use tube keepers to keep a
good connection and help with tube rattle.

My friend has the same problem with his HRD. I think that if you used your HRD as a head and used a seperate 1x12 as a cabinet then that might work. But I think that's a little extreme for an annoying rattle. So I guess you'll have to live with it. Good Luck :D

Tube rattle can happen to any tube. Combos are more prone to it than piggy back amps. Almost every combo I've ever owned had it at one time or another. The tubes in the Hot Rod Deluxe are so close to the speaker that it just adds to the problem. Tube dampeners helped mine a lot. Herbies Audio has them and you can get high temp O rings on eBay also. Try some it may help.

What supro said.
If tube vendors selected only the tubes that didn't suffer from some filament rattle in a combo at volume...they'd throw half of 'em away.
As suggested above, there are various tube damping rings and similar on the market that can help...but it's a fact of life with combos.

That doesn't make it any less annoying though...especially when it's often only one tube of a pair that does it. Why can't they both be quiet ! ;^)

Sometimes I wish I still had my Bandmaster. Piggyback amps rarely if ever get tube rattle. If you run an extension cabinet or turn the Hot Rod into a head it'll stop. I'd try the dampeners. My 6l6's are fine now with the dampeners.

This article might help you.

http://eurotubes.com/euro-l.htm#2

They talk specificly about the HRD and the special JJ tubes that have reduced rattle. Good luck. They sell the special 6L6GC's when you buy the retube kit for the HRD, but you can also email him for a custom order for them though.

My DeVille 410 has tube rattle, but only when it's cranked up pretty high. It's no problem really, it's normal until you hear it all the time, then it's time to check something out.

Listen to Stevie Ray Vaughans performance from Austin city limits back in 83', solo in the middle of voodoo child to be exact. This guy makes tube rattle sound good. Fret buzz too...LOL.

rubber o-rings (two per tube) purchased at my local automotive store eliminated tube rattle in my Deville and Deluxe Reverb.
