Hey everyone,
I've got a Blues Deville here and after I got my old 75 out of storage and started using it the other day, I noticed how much warmer it was than the Deville. My question is this...could some tube changes help pull some of the harshness out of the deville? Currently, it is all stock (2 6T6L6B's and 3 12AX7's). A friend recommended that I change out the 12ax7's with 12at7's. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the day...

First off, Welcome to the Forum.

I would change the 12ax7 in V1 for a 5751 and leave the other 2 12ax7's alone.

Thanks!...for the reply and welcome for that matter! So the 5751 should warm it up then? Another friend of mine recommended the same for v1 but also recommended a Sovtek 12ax7 LPS in V2 and a EH 12ax7 in V3. So you think I should stick with just the 5751 in v1? Thanks again for the reply!

The 5751 will take some of the gain out and give you a warmer, fuller, bluesy tone.

Bob at Eurotubes.com has JJ retube kits and he can even put together a custom set depending on what you are wanting. Just give him a call and tell him what you are looking for.

Get rid of the Groove Tubes altogether, they have the 'icepick in the forehead' thing goin on big time.

I use JJ 6L6GC's and EH 12AX7's in V1 and V3 and a Mesa 12AX7 in V2 with the JJ's biased to 82mv.

Sounds lovely!!

CC
