I just picked up my new Supersonic 22 combo and though I should give an updated opinion.

While I was awaiting delivery I read up on this amp on a number of forums and found almost everyone loved the sounds but that there were a few minor issues with them. I was pleasantly surprised to find mine had none of these problems, so I thought I should set the record straight. I guess Fender have listened to their customers and sorted things out.

1. Volume control not very linear i.e. very loud at 2 and increasing to 5 but then not much increase continuing to 10.
Not on mine - smooth increase and very linear.

2. Uncontrollable feedback when reverb turned up passed 2.
Not on mine - perfect right up to 8, then just a little.

3. Constant loud hissing.
Not on mine - quiet as a mouse, even at loud volumes.

Great amp and no issues I can find so far. Just wanted to let other prospective buyers know.

Ess......looks like you hit pay dirt....congrats!!!! Just to be clear, in a quite room, nothing
plugged in, all controls full CCW, no hiss at all coming off standby? I was just at my local GC last month and their display SS22 exhibited the dreaded hiss obvious even with ambient noise present.

Huh???
Seems like a very unrealistic test... " a quite room, nothing
plugged in, all controls full CCW, no hiss at all coming off standby"

If I had all controls full I would be with a group of musicians who's equipment would be making all kinds humming, crackling, popping, etc, noise and certainly not in a quiet room.

Never heard a valve amp in my life that would be dead quiet under those circumstances. Yes there is a light hiss.

Surely people are not complaining about that scenario!

Apologies for the abbreviation......"full CCW" refers to Full Counter Clockwise". With all
controls set to "0", many of these amps have a very audible hiss. With an instrument
plugged in at low volumes the hiss can get very distracting. Not a problem in a band context.

Good to hear there are some positive reviews on the QC of these Supersonics.

Oh, ok... thought it was odd.

Yes my SS22 is totally quiet set like that.

Awesome amp! Thx Fender.

Just got mine today, no reverb feedback, no excess hiss, BUT the reverb does BUZZ. Almost like a 60 cycle hum kind of buzz... I tried changing the reverb driver (V3, 12AT7), it didn't help. I unplugged the pan and it's still there, even with no guitar plugged in. So it's in the amp somewhere. It's not terrible, and for live use it wouldn't bother me at all, but it is annoying as hell for home use, especially when a sweet little PRRI is sitting right next to it... with BETTER and QUIETER reverb...

If anybody has any ideas on the reverb buzz, I'm all ears... I thought I read that early models had it, but that Fender had fixed all the noise issues... since mine's brand new, I assumed it was a late enough model to include the fixes....

If valve swapping doesn't solve it, try the reverb cables. See if re-routing the cables between amp and reverb pan away from the mains transformer helps. I had good success from replacing the cables with good quality shielded ones.

Thanks for that... BUT... if the noise is still there when I unplug the pan... then the noise is coming from the chassis somewhere.... maybe some bad routing inside? I'll poke around when I go in to check the bias.

Yeah that leaves the recovery stage of the reverb. If the hum goes away when the reverb is switched off with the footswitch, then the fault lies in the recovery circuit.

the hum goes away when the reverb is switched off with the footswitch, but not when I unplug the reverb pan. It doesn't sound like a tube issue... I've never had a tube exhibit an AC-type buzz/hum before, sounds like a power issue, but I will swap out the tube recovery stage as well and see if it helps.

Otherwise, I'm hoping it's the lead dress, and it's something I can figure out.

UPDATE: new reverb recovery tube did nothing.

If I remember correctly the reverb components in the amp chassis all lie close around or near the power transformer, so a lead dressing of the power transformer might be the simple fix. Also if the footswitch kills the buzz then the problem wouldn't be a recovery tube as the footswitch mutes only the signal between the return jack and the tube. So that area would be a good place to look for the culprit.

I haven't opened the amp up yet, but looking at the tube chart, V3 and V4 (reverb drive and recovery), as well as the RCA jacks all surround the reverb transformer... the power transformer is all the way over on the side of the chassis...

Yes sorry, I don't own a 22, I own the Twin and my reverb sits close (at least I think it does based on what I would consider ideal) to the power tranny, but based on the scale of your diagram, it may still be the influencing factor. You will only know once you open her up, but I think the issue is somewhere in the recovery circuit between the return jack and the recovery tube.
