I'm considering getting a mostly "clean" combo amp that can be used for acoustic and non-guitar instruments too. And simple enough to operate that I won't have to worry about others messing up settings.

One option is the Pawn Shop Ramparte with a reverb pedal. But have anyone tried it?

the only product website review i've seen on it, says only that it's "boxy" (9w-duh) and not for Country music....
i'm probably going to make the 150 mi. round trip JUST to test drive 1 for myself soon.

Let us know! "Not for country" could mean loud bass, which isn't unfeasible given the large cab. That wouldn't be bad. It seems like an awful lot of class A dual channel tube amp for the money, if you do the effects through stomp boxes anyhow.
So let us know how it sounds!

I've seen some videos and it sounds really boxy to me on all of them even Fenders demo. Should be available locally week after next so I'm told. I'm not in the market for an amp, but I'll try one out. Nine watts of Class A power won't yield very much headroom at all. The only thing I like about the whole Pawn Shop series is the cabinets. I wish they sold them empty so I could load them up with my own builds. sorry guys, but they just sound like cheap amps to me, especially when you push them. They are just cool looking inexpensive amps. Only my opinion, so don't think I'm trolling for an argument. There's a lot of cool sounding small amps around. VHT makes one of my favorite inexpensive hand wired amps.

I'm a big Tiny Terror / Dual Terror fan myself - they're surprisingly blues friendly.
And 7W in class A mode on one of those is more than enough for any home use, even patio use. So the 9W of the Ramparte doesn't worry me.

I like that the Ramparte is simple enough for guests and family to use, unlike what I have.
But if it just doesn't sound good, it doesn't matter.

Interesting amp to say the least, but less headroom than a '54 tweed deluxe with AT7s in the preamp.

I don't understand why Fender doesn't just put a good speaker in these amps to start with. What would it cost, maybe fifty bucks more? Seems like it's time to start building great amps again and stop worrying about maximum profit. The whole looks great but sounds bad and winds up on a bench in a month ain't flying with me anymore. I want great sounding reliable gear, not just something that looks good in the living room that's cheaper than an Ikea coffee table. what's a Weber speaker cost, fifty bucks more than the cheesy stock speaker. Until then, I will continue to build my own gear. I'm getting ready to build a Tele now too. Stewmac has some pretty sweet knotty pine bodies for sale that look pretty sharp when stained. The Frankentele is another winter project. Should be fun.

+1

Until that day occurs my Visa Platinum Card will remain firmly ensconced in my wallet.

Arjay, I'm starting to get pretty good at building stuff. That's the mechanical stuff. I've always been good at following directions and good with tools. Now I'm learning what it all means and how it works so I can build and mod these amp even more to my liking.

Dittos.

I enjoy restoring the old amps for myself and my clients and it's especially gratifying to know that long after I'm gone these priceless pieces will still be earning their keep somewhere. Seeing the smile on some fellow's face when I deliver his amp sounding and looking as nice as the day it was new really gives me a sense of satisfaction.

A working '54 Tweed Deluxe also costs $$$$.

But a working clone is a fraction of the price. I like going after the designs rather than getting a loan for the real deal. A quality clone will get you close enough.

The premium upcharge for "the real deal" often provides very little tangible benefit beyond satiating one's gloat factor -- IOW "the sizzle" rather than "the steak".

I am actually considering building a Tweed Deluxe clone. Affording a real one or even a reissue is out of the question, but I am good with tools , have a good technical background and am decent with a solder gun, so I figure why not? Would save me a bunch of money and there seem like some affordable kits out there.
