Bluesky...Thanks for the chart, would be curious to see what others think of the ratings?

Interesting that the JJ 6L6GC and Sovtek 6L6WXY measure almost identical but the tone description is very different.

BlueSky...Agreed and it looks like Sovtek's 5881 WXT should be on everyone's list. I must say I put a set into my 2x12 bantam because they were relatively cheap I planned to resell it anyway and they aren't bad. Good highs, smooth mids and solid lows...similar to what this says.

I am surprised no one has commented on this chart yet...especially Beemer! Some good information and interesting although subjective ratings!

Not bad at all. The stock tubes in my HRDlx were these same tubes (GTs, of course), and they lasted and still sound good after 13 years of use. I changed them out for something different, but they are still fully functional and I keep them for spares.

Cool comparison chart!

Interesting how the Svetlana (SED, =C=) SV-6L6GC has a G2 rating of 500VDC. And so does the Tungsol STR-6L6GC. I know the Svet's of the 1990-early 2000's were very tough tubes. Great tone (not quite RCA) and very good life. I've had pretty good luck with the TS STR, so far. Wonder how long they will last.

BTW-- I have not had overall good luck with new "SED" (=C=) 6L6GC. It seems unclear where the new production are being manufactured. Two sets had shorted tubes and one set died in only a year. Tone is not like the original 1990's version (St Petersburg plant). I have not used any in three years.

Svetlana is now a different tube than the Winged C. Svetlana are made in the Reflektor plant in Saratov, same place that Sovtek, EH, Mullard reissue, Tung Sol, and others are made. The Winged C still comes from St Peterburg, they just lost the Svetlana name, but it appears that current production of the Winged C is at least on hold, with rumors that production will not continue. I have read about quality issues with the newest productions of Winged C.

I've had great luck thus far with the Tung-Sol re-issue STR's (purchased from Jim McShane's website) in my Bassman 135. If/when it ever becomes necessary to re-tube my '78 Twin Reverb again, those are the bottles I'll use. You might stick with those tubes for any of your Fender ultra-linear requirements.

They were in my BDRI also. I was not that impressed by them. Even less so after I installed JJ tubes (both 6L6GC and 6V6S).

The Tung-Sol re-issue STR's seem to be a pretty robust design -- just the ticket for amps such as the Fender ultra-linear's with high B+ voltages. And I've had 6L6EH's in a '68 Bandmaster 2 x 10 combo conversion for about three years now. They sound quite tasty for a "budget-minded" bottle.

I have had good luck with the short bottle TAD 6L6s. Put a set in my Concert and they sound damn nice, so nice I picked up a couple matched sets and look forward to trying them in a couple of my other amps. I also like the TAD 6V6's as much as my Princeton does! Based on the chart may have to pick up some other sets based on this and some of these recommendations and try em out! Unless we can get Beemer to do it for us!?
