This is not a Fender amp, but maybe someone knows whats going on.
The footswitch for my Traynor YCV 40WR will not engage the "boost" on the drive channel, nor will the red light come on. It switches fine betwen clean and drive, but it will not turn on the boost.
Any ideas?

Do you have a continuity tester?
Your amp has a simple two button switch using a 1/4" TRS connection.
It should be an easy matter to determine if the switch is functioning as it should.
There are only 3 test points to choose from.

if I remember right, this amp has a boost on/off switch on the top panel. that switch may have to be in the "in" position for the footswitch to control the boost.

not 100% sure on that, but I know some other amps work that way. good luck

It does have the boost switch on the control panel. I have played with it but it didn't do anything.

OK, well .... if you have no testing equipment and you have no idea how to use testing equipment then perhaps it's time to take the amp to a qualified tech.

disconnect the footswitch. press the boost button on the top panel, and see if it works. if it does, then you have other issues.

not trying to be a wise guy! I had an amp one time, couldn't figure out why the footswitch wouldn't change channels. then realized the button was not pushed in on the panel. problem solved.

I hope your fix is an easy one!

Boost works without the footswitch.

So take the switch in and have it fixed.
Or buy a new switch.

could be the footswitch for the boost is bad, and the channel switch is good

Its all possibilities. I do know a couple of people who could test this for me.
I'll see if they can help.

Sounds to me like it may just be the easily replaceable 1/4" TRS cable or the footswitch jack, I'd start there.

+1

A simple-and-inexpensive DVM is all that's required for a definitive diagnosis.

The other guitar player in the band has a Traynor footswitch similar to mine.
I tried out his footswitch and cable on my amp and it still doesn't engage the boost.
Could this be an amp issue?
