Stick with a basic-but-reliable amp platform and let the stompbox designers do the heavy lifting.

Well said. Its always been my goal to find an amp for the basic tone shaping and a great clean sound. From there the options are limitless thru any stompbox or stompboxes you desire. But without a good clean sound to build on its pointless. I have never been a big fan of modelling or built in effects . And if your amp cant be counted on when you need it , it doesnt matter how well it sounds.

I bought a DRRI late 2006. Within the first 6 months I had replaced all the tubes due to microphonics, noise, power tube failure, etc. I've had no problems since and I've played the absolute snot out of it. This amp gets played every single day and been dragged around to countless rehearsals, gigged at least once a week at every bar, club, casino, dive in the Memphis area(and we've got a ton of venues here). It's my bedroom amp, my practice amp, my recording amp, my rehearsal amp, my stage amp, you get the idea. I'm sorry to the folks that have had problems, but don't give up on the DRRI. There's good ones out there. There's not too many amps out there with better tone either, IMO of course.

Here's something that worked for me that you can try, take the reverb tank out and work the springs back and forth several times, stretching them in this way breaks them in and prepares them for use.

(Note) It's not the springs needing stretching necessarily, but most importantly the contacts on the ends of each spring that need the breaking in, so just move the springs around for a little while and then try it out.

Hope this helps, it did for me.
Cheers

Edited For: This is a fix for any reverb problems such as howl and feedback that you may be experiencing.

Sounds like an ideal method for yanking the springs out of the friggin' transducers.

Nearly 45 years of experience working on Fender amps and I somehow missed that nugget of knowledge.

Good luck with that!

Is Fender listening?

Sounds like we're doing the R & D.

I had added a post about how I've brought and returned 2 68 DRRI to Guitar Center in 1 week due to quality issues.
Somehow the post here got deleted.
To its credit, Fender did respond to an email to Customer Support directing me to several authorized service centers in my area who would fix it for free. Instead I opted for the 65 DRRI. No issues... it sounds great.

We had a calamity befall the forum over the weekend and as a result, a number of recent threads were lost along with many responses to older existing threads. It's the price of doing business in the "digital age".

+1 Hey kids, don't try this at home! Unless you feel like buying a new reverb tank and feeling like a dipshit if someone asks what happened to the old one.

In 45 years of owning amps, I never had to "break in" a reverb tank. It always sounded the same unless I lost a tube that drives the thing. If you want to just plain old break the reverb tank, just mess with the springs.

Never broke any springs, just telling you it work for me.

Are you always this rude? You don't need to wish me luck, I've already had good results with it or would not have told you it worked for me.
