Just curious to know about your Fender Super Champ XD stories regarding live performance. I thought at first this tricky yet powerful little guy would be difficult to play out with, but it's not.

Just did a show last weekend in 2 bands ( I opened for the other band I'm in…) and all the guitar players there, including some of the barflies kept asking me what that little awesome sounding amp was.

I thought this was going to be a home recording or practice amp only. But, I notated my set list when and where I simply had to move 2 knobs - the "voice" knob and the "F/X" knob. It only took a second, literally, 6 seconds. By the time I said "3 Mississippi" most times I was ready to rock and roll after changing the voice and/or effects.

I love this amp so much it's ridiculous. I've had so many Fender Amps. 1968 Fender Twin Combo. 1970 Fender Twin Head. Fender FM212. Fender R.A.D (late 80s…). Fender Blues Jr. 1994-1996 Peavey Blues Classic. 1999 Peavey Classic 30. I played my 1998 SRV sig. strat through it, and a home-made custom strat-style with humbuckers (split coil with push/pull tone knobs).

Nothing, Nothing tops this amp for versatility, and a nice package for a great tone for a few bucks and no broken backs or hernias! I am thinking about having a Jensen speaker dropped in, some JJ's from Eurotubes, and grab a Fender Extension cab.

Any other Super Champ XD love stories out there?

I don't own this amp, but have used it a lot over the past few months. I have gigged with it and practiced with it, and I will tell you that it is an extremely versatile amp and is well worth the money. I personally liked the Champion 600 better because it was simpler and met my needs. But if that is what you're looking for, go for it. Good Luck. :D

I'm just two days away...and one frying pan right to head (the wife)...from getting the 600.

Heard some funky stories about it though...inconsistency in quality and some mods to definitely make...but I'll make the leap.

The damn thing is just too damn cute.

Dude I'm telling you the 600 is freakin' awesome. What are some bad things you've heard about it. I've ownes it for over 2 months and it surprised me in tone and in volume.

I have this amp and love it. FWIW, if you're interested and hearing what you can get out of this box, take a look at...

I'm at the office now so I don't have access to the link of this thread on TDPRI, but when I get home tonight, I'll post it. You'll get a lot of info from it on the 600:

Basically, they had crackling sounds at certain volume levels, or the vol levels would drop off and not match your knob setting. Now, this can be attributed to things like the tubes not being properly seated (loosening through shipment), but this wasn't the case here. And in these cases, the guys just exchanged them and the new ones were fine. Faulty tubes or faulty wiring.

Next comes the quality of the speaker, which is universally accepted as inferior by the guys who know this stuff. (I DON'T know this stuff.) So for a mere $25, you can really raise the quality bar on this, although I believe YOU that you say it's as awesome as it is. One guy did what I was thinking of doing--replacing the 6" with an 8"--and yes, it WILL fit in there. However, he said that for the cabinet, the 6" sounded much better and he switched it back.

Next, the tubes. Don't ask me what the heck NOS means, but a lot of these guys replaced the stock ones with this type. However, plenty of guys liked the 600 just the way it was and didn't change a thing, but I think the tube swap really ups the volume while also helping tone. Some guys go the max doing something with the risk of damaging the amp/shortening the life, but again, I don't remember or understand this stuff.

Finally, one "nut" even went so far as to change the GRILL CLOTH.

Anyway, check back here tonight and I'll post that link. Luckily, I don't have the cash on me right now (get paid tomorrow), because Sam Ash is directly on my way home from work and the temptation is ridiculous.

That's a lot of stuff to change on that little amp.

Can you believe how intense these guys get with this stuff?

Anyway, I went to Sam Ash last night and played it, but like always, there were a dozen metal-head kids blasting away and I couldn't hear a damn thing half the time. Plus, I was playing on an '08 MIM Tele (like mine) which was so badly intonated that it was embarrassing to play. I could have picked up another one, but all I cared about was hearing how my pups sounded through it anyway.

I love the tone, will DEFINITELY do any mods which can make it a bit louder, but wish I could have heard it with some reverb added. I need a Boss Acoustic Processor which sells for around $100, and I'm heading back there today to look again. I'll either get the processor or the amp today--can't decide.

Honestly, I'd get the Champion 600 and a Holy Grail Reverb. That's my setup and it's awesome to me. Good Luck. 8)

I have had a Champion 600 for several months now and love the tone at a reasonable volume for home practice.
But then my wonderful wife gave me a Super Champ XD for my birthday.
I was blown away. This amp is so versatile it's unbelievable.
The voicings are great, so are the effects. I think my favorite effect is the Vibrotone, which is supposed to emulate a rotary speaker.
At the price and size it won't break the bank or your back. :D

Hey guys, I too have been looking at the Super Champ XD and, while I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I thought I'd ask if anyone has had a chance to compare/contrast it to the Vox Valvetronix line. I have the AD30VT for home use and I enjoy (most of) the models and the headphone jack but I really wanted to try a true tube amp. The Vox has preamp tubes but I guess is SS everywhere else. Does the Super Champ XD give you more of a true tube sound?

The SCXD is not a true tube amp. Do a google search or search The fender Discussion page. You will find all you need to know. I will go on the record as saying I love mine dearly.

I just got mine in from Musicians Friend the other day, and I can't believe how great it sounds! The clean channel is fantastic, and the different voicings and effects are icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. That being said, the manual isn't exactly clear on what that lone 12AX7 is up to... is that just the preamp for channel 1? Also, I've heard a lot of people bashing the installed speaker... what would you recommend (besides a cabinet) in place of the factory speaker? I love the way mine sounds, so I'll probably leave it alone for a while, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
