...for a Fender tube guitar amp that gives nice crunch at low,neighbour-friendly volumes.

Hi Eljay. I would recommend the Blues Jr. which can be made very neighborly. :)

I would also suggest changing the stock speaker for either the Cannibis Rex or the one that comes with the Screaming Eagle FSR model which is the one I have.

    HTH

    Cheers!

I'd go with a 70's Silverface Champ. 6 Watts of serious tone that can still be had a a decent price and in my opinion sounds much better with no boxiness. Consider that the cost of a Blues Jr and a speaker change, you're around the same price. I actually run my 74 Champ with a Weber Z Matcher and two 112 cabs and play small blues gigs with it.

That's not bad. I'd just dump the EH speaker for a Weber Signature. Did that with mine and it sounds incredible. Tubes are just a matter of taste. The price seems to reflect the condition. Very simple amps and easily repaired. They sound great for sure. Mine's never been recapped, and it's seriously due for sure. I would sink some money into an older Champ before I started modding a Blues Jr. Side by side, the old Champ blows away the the BJ. Like I said, the biggest problem with the BJ for me is the boxy tone. It need a bigger cab for sure and I'm surprised Fender didn't make some SE version. I don't worry about having a small a grab-n-go amp. My old Champ and my 5e3 clone fit that bill just fine and sound really nice too.

+1

Anyone needing a small amp would benefit from having one of these.
