I have a blues jr 3 that is about 9 months old. I haven't plugged in for a while, about a month, my brother plugs in last week and I don't have any reverb at all. I have no experience with tube amps so if this is a dumb question then go easy on me. Does the reverb run thru one of the tubes on the back of the amp? I still have warranty on it but Im thinking the cost to ship it to Fender for repair might be more than taking it to the local Guitar Center and having them fix it. Ive checked behind the amp and the reverb unit has both rca jacks plugged in. Any help would be appreciated.

I forgot to say , it is a 15 watt amp, and everything else appears to work also

Reverb driver and receiver are op amps as shown in the schematic.

http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... _Rev-D.pdf

If all connections are plugged in properly, you probably have either a bad reverb tank or op amps. Either one is a warranty repair which is good for 5 years. Take it in to the nearest service center for repair.

+1

The reverb on my '04 HRD failed in precisely the same manner. Let a service center handle the repairs under the terms of the warranty.

Unplug and plug those RCA connectors . This will make a "clean" contact if it the problem .

Whats the likelihood that your brother knocked the amp over, dropped it or handled it roughly enough to mess up the reverb tank insides?

And FYI, Fender's network of authorized repair centers or techs is extensive, so chances are there is one close by. Check the Fender site for a list.

Nope, my brother didn't hit it or anything, I was there when he plugged in. I took it to Guitar Center and, Adam, their tech pushed on the tubes lightly with a rag over his hand and then plugged it in and it works again. He said that the tubes heat up and swell and then cool down and shrink and that can make them push themselves out of socket enough to make things stop working, and he didn't charge me. I don't know about other Guitar Centers, but the one in College Station, Texas has great customer service. Definitely highly recommend them.

I'm glad your amp is working again (for now), but that story is bull$hit.

No "Uh, O.K." about it. The pins on a preamp tube are 1/4" long and a power tube are 3/8" long. You could pull a tube halfway out of the socket and it would still make connection unless the socket was bad and the tube was loose. And if that were the case, you certainly would have noticed it. Your tech did nothing to fix the problem. At least he was honest enough not to charge you.

It's possible that there was a patina of corrosive contaminants on either the tube pins or the socket itself and reseating the tube abraded enough of it away to improve the continuity of the tube. Or the contacts of the socket simply require re-tensioning.

Exactly, except those were not the reasons the tech gave for the amp now working and the tech did nothing to actually address these two issues (like using a cleaner on the tube pins or actually re-tensioning the socket). There is no guarantee that they won't reoccur in the near future.
