Was it the same with no guitar plugged in to the amp?

Yup.

Before you say"AH HA!", I'm not talking about hiss or other noise. This was the rapid "putt-putt-putt" I have described in a couple of threads. Take the tube shields off while the Wi-Fi is active and you can hear it. Turn the Wi-Fi off or move the transceiver far enough away, and it goes away. Put the tube shields back on and the amps are quiet when the Wi-Fi is working unless you move the transceiver closer to the amp.

Nah, that's what I meant. It is usually the guitar or cable picking up interference, that's why I thought about asking.

So...what is a tube shield? I have amps with metal mesh screens inside the cabinet over the chassis. Those would seem to work like screen on a microwave door that would somewhat block cellphone or WiFi type energy...but not really because they don't surround the parts.

If it doesn't have a power tube in the circuit...I'm not that interested

OK, got it. Thanks. I thought you meant something for the power tubes also. I didn't understand the purpose of the covers on the 12ax7's. Much appreciated, as always.

Preamp tubes, due to the high levels of gain that they provide, are susceptible to RFI/EMI. Tube shields help to prevent interference.

No, neither of those amps were made to be able to have tube shields.
