Well, then. That's a good thing. Still, I'm anxious to see/hear one of these in the local Sam Ash or Guitar Center. But we'll need some reviews from owners once they get their speakers broken in. :)

Frankly, the initial reports of cosmetic issues and tremolo problems don't paint too rosy a picture......

:(

I somewhat expect a similar trem problem as the 65. Don't know why they don't fix that. The cosmetics might be the way that particular dealer stores them. They are shipped upside down from Fender. At least my Twin and HRDlx were. I assume they do this so the tubes don't fall out. So, the top of the amp is at the bottom of the box during shipping...

I do recollect that my HR Disgrace came packed upside down, with Styrofoam corners to keep it isolated from the outer carton.

Why pack ANY amp that way? Heck,...they have those,(...oh what the hell do you call them),...spring retainers to hold the tubes in place! Well,...that aside,...you guys have me wanting a '65 DRRI amp. Not really sure I like the "silverface" look,...prefer the "blackface"
re-issues from a cosmetic perspective. Not long ago I did try a '65 DRRI amp and have viewed some impressive youtube demos of them as well,...So,...as it stands at this point,...the '65 DRRI amp is my choice! Still,...video demos never do an amp justice at all,...you have to hear them in person!

They're very adept at concealing a shittyass S/N ratio or excessive hum though.

And, you can never actually tell at what volume the amp is being played, which always leaves you wondering about headroom/breakup volume. I've heard some great sounds from the new 68 Custom Princeton, but I can't be sure of the headroom issue. A store stocking this amp is probably 150 miles one way from me, so???????????????

Just a wild guess, but the Princeton will have less headroom than the 65 princeton. It only has the one channel to work with. The Deluxe and Twin kept the same vibrato channel and Customized the "Normal" channel. Of course the Vibrato channel will sound different due to the Celestion speakers even if that channel has the same headroom.

If you want the absolute unvarnished truth you'll take that 300-mile drive.

It's as simple as that.

I'm in the same dinghy -- about 170 miles round-trip to hear one for myself.

I only had to go 70 miles round-trip to see a 68 Custom Twin Reverb, and I really want to be kind to Fender, but the unvarnished truth is ugly. Many visible and invisible flaws right out of the box.See the 68 Deluxe Reverb topic started by Redfarfisa. Before any speakers get broken in, at least some of these babies are going to have to first be fixed. And I suspect there are a lot of broken babies - hope I am way wrong about that. Seems to be a lot of that going around in Fenderland. Can immediate warranty repairs and outright replacements really be more cost effective than competent engineering, testing, assembly, and some more testing up front?

It's funny. I was literally in the Fender Visitor Center two weeks ago and they didn't even have one of these amps in their showroom.

You're preaching to the choir in the case of this forum member.

I had high hopes for this line since I have a soft spot for the drip-edge silverfaces. I don't guess I'll be trading in my '68 Deluxe Reverb any time soon......
