As I wait to try the new Custom Vibrolux and a vintage one or two, I ask you 'techno-types' if output is reduced in an amp when number of speakers is less?
I know that when you add an extension cab to an amp, the volume increases ... does it go the other way in the case of a 4X10?
No, I'm not going to pull two of the four out of my DeVille as they are 30w each and I don't want to put 60w into the then modified 4ohm load. I suppose I could go series for 16ohm but, it ain't gonna happen either way - it's just a question; for now 8)

So, if'n I was to get a couple 50w, 16ohm, 10" speakers wired in parallel, then I would be reducing the weight of my combo, it would be the desired 8ohm load BUT would my main output volume be reduced any to be worth the price of the speakers?????

I really like the sound of my amp for all my purposes when I run it on 3/3.5 (channel one that is). Again, the problem is the club owners and sound guys continually telling me to turn it DOWN. I got a TS9 for my overdrive and hate it so now, a BB Preamp stomp box is in my future too.

A Vibrolux Reverb would probably solve all my troubles but I need to find one to try then, scrounge up the stincken ridiculous price tag.

There is a much simpler way to manage the volume on a DeVille.

Replace V1 with a 5751.
Plug in to input #2.

Problem solved in five minutes for less than $20.

No, the wattage output is the same. But, the amount of air your are pushing is mcuh greater with more speakers. Or the efficiency of the amp to produce sound at a certain distance is greater. Kinda like the difference between a 92dB efficient speaker and a 100dB one.

12AY7 in V1 would drop the gain even more than a 5751 and give a little more "Bassman" tone to the amp.

Thanks for that!
I'm leery about spending money on another 5751 as I have them in both of my Marshall rigs .. a 50w head and a 100w head. The reduction is negligible. They are NOS Phillips 5751s.
I'll try the 12AY7. Isn't the DeVille already 'fashioned' after the Bassman?? To conclude, will the 12AY7 stress any other parts in the chain or is it perfectly compatible?

The 12AY7 will work fine in the input and second gain stage (V1 and V2). You might want to try a 12AU7, if you have one, in the input. It has the lowest mu of any of the common compatible 12A(_)7 tubes.

The tone stack is "sorta" Bassman as is the PI and power stage. The rest of the gain stages are nothing like a Bassman.

12AY7, 5751, and 12AX7 are direct replacements for each other. No issues.

Something that low in gain is overkill (underkill?) in my opinion. It will also have a large impact on the drive channel, dropping the gain too much and making it pretty weak.
