Hmmmmmmm, well I am extremely happy with the tube replacement I did. Played 2 gigs this weekend, and had no problems at all.

If you read the fine print on the Fender warranty, you will see that the first time you play a paid gig with it, or use it for any commercial purpose, the warranty is void. So after your first gig, you might as well try some mods on it if you are not happy with the performance because there is no warranty any more.

Contrary to what some people may think, swapping between compatible tubes will do no harm to the amp.

Funny. I can't find that statement in the Fender warranty.

You guys are right. I have no idea where I got that idea about the warranty being voided if you use the amp for commercial purposes. Pulled the warranty out of the file cabinet and re-read it.

I deleted my post about about the warranty, and I'm sorry if I mislead anybody.

Actually, there was a lawsuit (?) several years ago involving Jeep owners who were denied warranty coverage on their vehicles after using them off-road. Jeep had an ad campaign that touted their vehicles as "trail-rated". When people used them as they were advertised (and as shown in TV commercials), Jeep tried to void the warranties. I forget what the final outcome was, but I think Jeep took a beating.

I used 12au7 in my HRD V1 before I gave it to my brother. He is still using it the same way. I believe in MODs because I am capable of doing MODs! I also put a different Master Vol pot in the HRD, again because I can handle it and gained better control. Also did some cap mods. That amp benefited from it. All amps are modifications of the original and there are many different amps with circuits that were modified from original. Get your head out of the sand or where ever it is stuck!

This is the pot that is touchy, if you have the drive pot maxed. People seem to confuse the Master with the Volume pot quite often, not sure why, but it leads to a lot of repeating of the same BS.

Yes master is now a 250KA instead of the 10KL or maybe it was 100KL, anyway better pot taper. I ordered the same one Fender uses for the 1st Volume.

Good job! The version III improvement was to the Master, they used a 100K 30A pot (previously 100K B [linear]), and left the Volume and Drive pots as they always have been, 250K 15A pots. Your Master might even be a bit better than that in the v III.

I have a HRD III. I am not experiencing any jump in volume. I also play in the house and use low volumes. I can go from 1-3 with a smooth increase in volume. I set my guitar levels down, so I can go a bit higher with the amp volume. With my guitars, I prefer the amp setting - Treble/8.. Mid/6.. Bass/4.. Reverb/3.. Presence/5. When I use the drive channels, I turn the drive up, and the master down. Then the guitar volumes increases the drive and not volume. This works for me, maybe not for others. I do agree that the Clean channel is awesome and handles effect pedals well.

You are one of the few people who seems to understand how to use a master volume amp in general and this amp in particular. Good for you. :D
