Hi

I bought an Excelsior amp from the US. Can anyone recommend what step down transformer is adequate to use with this amp or US fender amps in general in Ireland/UK.

I have looked around a bit an not quite sure what I need, some look very big and bulky. Are there any compact type ones that will do the job reliably without damaging the amplifier?

Thank you in advance,
G

Sure the step down transformer will
be bulky.

Look how many amps or watts is write with the outlet voltage ,120 v for a US amplifier on the back of the amplifier . And buy a step down transformer with at least the same power.

Or, just get the export 230 volt transformer and install it in your amp and you won't have to hassle with an external transformer.

+1

That's the most orderly and efficient way to do it.

Yes if strata stay very long time in UK . It is not a cheaper mod ( $200 parts and labour ? ) and you have to pay for a small wiring mod when returning in the United- States ( $50 ? ) .

Less expensive ( $30 ) step down transformer; IMO a 100 watts may do the job and would be lots less bulky , we are waiting for your specs, but here a 500 watts;

Be sure the PT in the amp is rated for 50/60Hz and not just 60Hz. You run the risk of toasting your PT, if it's only rated for 60Hz in a country running 50Hz ---- regardless of step up or down transformers.

Thank you for the tips.

How can I tell? Is this printed on the back of the chassis? I don't recall seeing anything listed in the user manual.

Many thanks,
G

Are you sure of that ? Myself I don't know what 50 hz will do on a 60 hz amp or other gear. If I can learn from you I will appreciate .

All my battery charger or power suply I used often in Europe are rated 120/240 volts at 50/60 HZ

+1 BMW2002Ti

I found a link here . Short story , with wrong cycle frequency ( 60 hz to 50 hz power ) internal current of the amp ( or other apliance ) will go up to 17 % and will damage inside electronics.

Answer; drop the input voltage .
