I just got a '68 VM SF Deluxe Reverb and was able to set it up next to my '65 DRRI. I use these amps a lot for vintage keyboards, but I know most of you guys are guitar guys, so I grabbed a couple of Tele's and tried them out. I only had a few minutes, but these were my first impressions: I set the volume controls at 2, treble at 7, and bass at 10 - the '68 has a deeper, richer sound like with added bass response. The vintage channel has a lot of brightness compared to the vibrato channel of the '65. The custom channel has more low end but with a nice sparkle. The whole amp sounds like using the loudness control on a stereo that boosts the highs and lows. The reverb is very nice - maybe not as intense as the '65, but, again, with a little more high sparkle. I really like it for the way I play guitar. I'll leave it to you guys to really crank it and break it up a little. The background noise of the '68 is louder than that of the '65, and the tremolo adds an annoying tick that pulses at the tremolo speed - I'm not sure if these problems are just with this amp or all of them. I like the '68 and I'm looking forward to playing some Fender Rhodes and Wurlitzer electric pianos through it!
