Greetings,
I'm still looking to replace my 4x10 HR DeVille with something less wattage. The Deluxe is not an option .. have had many over the decades.

I'm intrigued by the Custom Vibrolux Reverb as it's 'tamed' down to 40 watts but, the fact that it pushes 2 x 10" speakers concerns me. Lately, my primary guitar is my new 335 Dot and it is incredibly full & powerful sounding. I'm thinking that since I play in the loud zone, the speakers may not take it without giving me the chainsaw effect.

Since nobody has one for sale in the state of Florida, I can't try this combination. Now, I'm not interested in the 'vintage' ones that are out there ... only the current 'new' one from Fender. There's nothing on YouTube or even the Fender.com site to demo this combination.
Does anyone out here in this forum play a Gibson ES-335 through this amp??

Thanks and I appreciate the effort however; the amp in that video is not the same as my request.
The only similarity between the video Vibrolux and the new Custom Vibrolux is the name and the fact it has two 10" speakers... nothing else.

I would either go with a vintage Vibrolux Reverb Blackface or Silverface or a Bassman reissue. Either will give you way better tone than either a DeVille or the Custom Vibrolux. I owned an original 66 Vibrolux and IMO, the Custom doesn't even deserve to wear the same badge.

If you're close to the Tampa Bay area you can come play my BF VLR and then you'll understand why this amp is so sweet, specially with a 335!

I know a few who owned the Custom and modded it just to make it sound right... another option if you need a little more headroom is a SF Super Reverb, my 335 sounded best through my 73 SR.

I love my SF VLR. It has this great 6V6GT on steroids tone, for a 6L6GC amp.

I have a buddy that has the Custom Vibrolux Reverb and I have played my 335 through it and those tens are just fat and fine sounding. I don't think the 2x10 config would present any problems with your 335. I also have a 2x10 Rivera Era Concert Amp and my 335 sounds nice a fat through it and while it is a different amp, it didn't have any issues for gigging and blues/rock playing.

Since you're not wanting to go Vintage VR I would also throw in a vote with Cedar Blues for a Super Reverb...A nice amp for a 335 for sure...in fact a great amp for almost ANY guitar.

FWIW

My only problem with all these older amps is that too many fingers have been inside them 'fixing' or 'modifying' things... I HATE that. I used to buy used back in the '80s and was screwed over many times with amp failures on stage. Since then, I've been a 'brand new' kind of guy.

I'm in New Port Richey but that doesn't matter ... the entire state of Florida is my playground. I've had a couple Super Reverbs in my career and I agree with you 100% however; having had a few shoulder surgeries, I'm also trying to wittle-down the weight of these amps since nobody carries stuff for you any more unless they get paid more than you, the performer.

It's true sometimes you could end up with a modified older amp too... I've gotten lucky, and when an amp needed work, I have the perfect tech in the area. And it's easier for him to work on these vintage amps...

If you're into Blues then you probably know about the Blues jam at the Green Iguana on Mondays, NPR ain't that far... you can stop by and try a real Vibrolux Reverb

+1K...The Green Iguana is a GREAT place to here some fine blues playing. I keep trying to find a reason to get down there and jam with Cedar and the guys, just haven't had the time or opportunity. I have been to the GI a couple times while visiting MacDill AFB while on active duty a couple years back and some fine blues playing went on there. I just didn't know Cedar at the time or I would have made sure I got up and did a couple of blues tunes with em!

As for used amps, there are plenty of fairly pristine old Fenders out there. And they are relatively easy to get back to factory specs. I found an mint 1965 Super Reverb and all it needed was a cap job and a replacement of a speaker and I only paid $900 for it. Just keep looking they are out there!

What's nice about an older amp is if it was modified, it's pretty easy to put it back to spec.

And nearly every part (or its equivalent) remains available.

Thanks for all your replies guys! I've seen there's a few 60's & 70's Vibrolux reverbs out on eBay and GC websites. I just can't believe the prices!
