Best amp - 1967 Marshall Super Lead 50 watt head on a Marshall 8x10 cab. I ran it wide open with an original Power Soak to control the volume and an original Tube Screamer for extra gain. The guitars at that time (1978-84) were an Ibanez Rocket Roll, an original Iceman, and one of the early Kramer Floyd Rose models with the odd bady style. That setup shook the walls at many high school gyms and clubs. The head expired in '84, actually went up in flames and was unrepairable.
Since then I've had an excellent Marshall TSL122 and a Mesa F-50. I'm currently shocking the world by playing a Peavey ValveKing, an amp which all tube fiends should play for a week just to see how great an amp you can get without paying $2000!
For grins, and small clubs, you can't beat my Super Champ XD and my '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. Still love my Fenders!

My personal favourite would have to be the Fender MH-500

I just get such a good tone out of it, both clean and dirty.

I play in a Jazz band as well as a Melodic Death Metal band, but I'm thinking about getting a Jazzmaster head for the whole Jazz thing

Ihave owned several fender ,peavy, marshall 2-12 amps ,this fender pro jr is my personal amp very plain no nonesense attachments lightweight ,performs great on michrophone and with bbe crusher .super clean analog
multitone with groovetube variables .nice studio, practice,& jam tones ,
I was checking out the blues jr but it s too loaded ,heavy and if the effects screws up the amp is in the shop ,therefore the fender pro is a great versatile fender amp .the other manufacturers are not even close in this catagory
the only option required is a headphone plug in for privacy, maybe you could advise me on this issue .

Hey guys and gals,What is the best amp, solid state or tube, that you have ever owned? For me,it was a Fender Princeton 65 which I bought brand new around 1998 and mercifully had to let it go,around a year ago.

It depends on what the word "best" means to me.

My personal best sounding amp? Pre 2000 Mesa DR with Nos tubes in it.

But these little nuggets have become my personal favorite gigging amps.

Image

My Fender Studio 85 and Eighty Five. I bought one for $50 and the other for $70. I use them live more than I have any other amp. When you're a working man playin' the bars they just Rule. I can fit this whole rig in the trunk of my car. They cut through mic'd or not. Nice SS clean, Tech 21 Tri-OD for dist. Great for recording. Makes me more money than my Mesa ever did.

A mid-60s Pro Reverb, back in the 70's....

Also from the 70's, a 50-watt Marshall that was fairly awesome....

Lately? My Egnater Rebel 20. Amazing performance for the price, and with 5751 tubes replacing the 12ax7's in the pre-amp, a sweet, singing little thing.

I read somewhere that your Egnater Rebel 20 was a very nice amp. You are pleased with it? I'd like to hear one. :)

fhopkins - is there a GC in your area? The mas-produced (i.e.: Chinese-made) Egnaters are exclusive to Guitar Center... you can check one out there. When they first came out, you could hardly find one in stock, but I think the feeding frenzy has slowed down a bit.

I like mine a lot.
