I've had the supersonic 22 combo for a few months. It's always had this slight cut-out when switching from the burn to the vintage channel. About 60ms. Switching from the vintage to burn is instant.

I took it back to the shop to look at and they reckon that it's acceptable and normal. We tried another ss22 which did the same. In another shop I tried the ss60 combo which appeared NOT to have this cut-out (and as far as I could tell didn't have a pop either).

So my question to the Fender community is whether a 60ms cut out on channel switching is acceptable, or whether it's grounds for a warranty return. Or is it fixable?

60 ms? How in the world did you time that? That's faster than the blink of an eye! If it is truly 60 ms, I wouldn't worry about it.

I recorded me playing while switching. I opened the wave in cubase and you can pretty accurately see and measure how long the gap is.

It's audible and a bit annoying. I don't generally use the switch in a band situation so I'm not sure how it comes across there.

I'd probably forgive it on a £300 amp, but the SS is splashing out a bit and I would expect better. Is that just me?

Since the channel switching is done via a relay with moving parts, I don't see it switching any faster than that, so 60ms could be perfectly normal (I have never timed it). I have a few amps that have relays for channel switching and there is a slight delay, but I just work with it, such as a palm mute or something similar. The amps that I have that use transistors for channel switching seem to switch instantly, but the transistors probably have some affect on the tone.

You'll just have to kick the button 60 ms sooner than you want to switch. Or, just arrange your songs so that you are only switching from vintage to burn.
