I have been playing through my Fender Deluxe VM for a couple of years now and I do love this amp. However it has cut out on me on 3 different occasions. all 3 being at the same venue. This amp has performed flawlessly at all my gigs except at this particular venue. It's a farmers market, outside, hot and humid, though all equipment is out of the sun. I play through a song or two, then the amp cuts out. The amp still has power. All cords and other equip was proven to be good. After letting it set for a few minutes, it comes back on, then off again, then on again. All power for the market is supplied by a mobile generator, a whole lot of people are pulling power. I am hooked up to 2 extension cords, about 100 feet. I had my amp in for service and my tech assured me that the amp is working properly. This has plays great everywhere but this venue. Any thoughts?

Since the symptoms only seem to manifest at the same venue, it's possible the cause is some glitch in the generator-provided primary power. You might try an UPS system such as those used for ensuring uninterrupted power to a PC. A Furman power conditioner might not be a bad idea as well.

In addition to what Retroverbial posted, 100 feet on an extension cord can cause low power also. The size of the wire in the extension cord is important, you would probably want at least 12 gauge wire or bigger. Actually, 100 feet for any electrical signal or power usually requires some kind of boost at that length to keep things stable.

The fact that your amp stays on and then returns sounds like the kind of thermal protection my Bronco 350 has. The manual states that it will behave as your amp has in conditions where the system is about to damage itself from too much heat. Given your hot and humid venue, this seems a likely cause to me. These kinds of amp behaviors are annoying, even though it is for amp protection.

The Deluxe VM doesn't have any thermal protector that I can see.
