The Blues Deluxe sounds awesome with the 2x12 extension cab but.....

Now that the Weber 12A150A has broken in I've decided I don't like it for the following reasons:

1. Although the shrillness has gone so has the sparkly treble which makes a fender amp a fender amp

2. Although I only use the clean setting with pedals it's breaking up too much with the Overdrive I'm using. And not in a nice way, at least to me and the rest hips my band

3. It's too mid sounding for my liking

4. I find that the clarity has gone

So I dropped in the old Fender eminence speaker and hey presto, I like the amp again!

I think that, as much as I don't want to admit it, I'm more a fan of ceramic speakers rather than Alnicos.

Anyhow, I'm happy again and will be trying the new/old speaker in conjunction with my 2x12 cab.

Cheers all

Sacha

Hemp might solve your problem. Hemp cones, that is. Now that I have found them shrill tones and low end flabbiness are a thing of the past. I do have to say, the C Rex speaker sounds great in my HRDIII but, adding my 10" Alnico Red Fang speaker gives all the chime I could want mixed into the warm tonal sound of the hemp cone. I tried something similar with my 10'' LIL Buddy in my SCX2 amp but, since the hemp cone there is properly broken in, it does not need and assistance in the high end. Hemp takes longer to break in, the true sound does not emerge until break in. I bought a used Lil Buddy and it saved me money while giving me the tone I wanted without waiting.

I have not heard an alnico hemp speaker yet but, the musicality of hemp fibers adds the magic I like about alnico without the compression of these magnets and you get more headroom with ceramic magnets.

Hemp, it's not just a marketing gimmick or something to make drug references about.

Another update:

So last night at rehearsal I used my Blues Deluxe with the additional 2x12 Harley Benton cabinet which I use for gigging with my DSL100H. As previously mentioned it's loaded with Vintage 30s. (the Blues Deluxe had the original eminence speaker in)

Well, my drummer still doesn't like the sound out of the amp but..... for me it sounds really cool and compressed, sort of SRV/Clapton sound rather than Rock AC/DC sounds as per my DSL100H.

All in, I'm impressed, I wouldn't use it to gig with in my current covers band, but not because of the lack of tone, more so as it doesn't hit the mark with old school/light Rock stuff. When I get my blues/rock band going though I think I'll be using this setup.

In summary, I have a cool blues rig to use but I'm still lacking a usable practice amp as I don't really want to cart my DSL head and cab or the Blues Deluxe and Cab to practice and back.

Solutions?

Cost effective: Just use the blues deluxe for practice (without 2x12 cab) and not get the tone I want, but hey it is just rehearsal ;)

Middle ground: Local music shop has a 4x12 Tweed Blues Deville for £400ish and also a 2x12 (or is that 2x10) Hot Rod Deville. Always wanted a deville, and will probably try it out in the coming few weeks

Preference: Buy a VoxAC30C2 (really want one although I've never tried one)

Cheers

Sacha

Sounds like a good deal on a great amp. I believe that it's a 4x10 though.

I have a Blues Deluxe and a 4 x10 Blues Deville and I like both of them...
I have a c-rex in the Blues Deluxe and 2 - Ragin Cajuns and 2 - Emi Legends in the Blues Deville..

Lately though I have been jamming with my DRRI and Egnater Tweaker with a 1 x 12 cab in stereo and those tweeds are getting a little dusty...

Nice collection! Do you find the deville has more bottom end than the Blues Deluxe?

I think it has more bottom end by itself, it really gets more bottom end when I hook up my 2 x12 with Texas Heats in it.. The blues deluxe sounds good with that 2 x 12 hooked up to it also...

I stuck the stock speaker of the blues deluxe in a 1 x 12 and it sounds a lot better in that cab than it did in the amp itself... The cab is an all birch ply cab though and a lot bigger than the blues deluxe cab..

I just got a Mustang V v2 head and I have been a/b'ing it against all of my tube amps and I can nail the tone of both of them pretty damn close with my 2 x 12 with the Texas Heats.. It lacks a little luster at gig levels though, pretty good for practice and saves wear and tear on my tube amps..
