Yo everyone,

Hope everyone is well.

So, yeah. Used to have blues junior tweed and loved it, and since i became a student ive sold alot of my gear. Heard loads of good things about egnator..

I want it for bedroom use only & play anything from blues to heavy rock.

Thanks

I currently have an Egnater Tweaker 15 Head and I also had a Blues Jr. with a C-Rex. I A/B'd these and I liked the tone of both amps, but the Tweaker was better for how I use my amps. It has an effects loop and I really like the different great tones I can get with it. Also I have a 1x12 cab and a 2x12 cab, both of them are larger than the Blues Jr. cab and made out of Birch Ply and sound real good with the Egnater. The Egnater is dead silent with all of my pedals, whereas the Blues Jr. was kind of temperamental..

I traded the Blues Jr. for a 1995 Blues Deville 410 and never regretted the swap...

Yeah i heard the egnators are dead silent with pedals.. I think i really need to play both... They have a 2nd hand tweaker in my local Guitar shop.

I think the versitlity of the egnator may win me over... Although i am a real blues junior fan..

Oh i cant wait, its been so long since ive had a decent amp..

Thanks for the input..

I own an Egnater Rebel 20. It close to three years old and has never given me a problem and sounds incredible. I've played out of a few Tweaker 15's and think they're way more versatile than the Blues Jr and blows them out of the water in the tone dept. I just can't get past the boxiness of the BJr.

I have an Egnater Renegade and a Fender as well. On the whole, the Renegade is the better amp.. However, the Fender does what I wanted- a good sounding grab and go- and gets some sounds the Egnater doesn't.

If you want flexibility, get the Egnater. If it is that particular Fender tone you want, you have to get that.

My two cents.

You may find something of value in a comparison I did a hair over two years ago. It wasn't with a Tweaker but it was an Egnator. Here are my findings:

BJr vs Rebel 20

Then you should check out the Egnater forum first (I wish that I had), you can read plenty of bad things. The Chinese made Egnaters have transformer problems across the entire product line.

To be fair, I have owned a Twkr 40 and a Rebel 20, both had issues. The 40 lasted 6 months and blew the PT. After repeated calls, and multiple emails to Egnater, taking 2 months to get warranty repair, the amp lasted another 2 months and blew the PT again. Egnater refused to repair it a second time. I bought a Rebel 20 because it was on sale, and I thought that it would be dependable. As soon as I played it at home, the volume started dropping out. Thank goodness GC has a return policy. I returned the junk 20 and got a MB instead, and I couldn't be happier. Egnater customer service sucks as bad as their amps. You couldn't give me another Egnater.

And my HRDlx lasted only three months and spent a ton of time in the shop. The Tweaker 15 and the Rebel 20 are the most reliable of the Egnater lineup. The Mexican Fender amps ain't nothin to write home about either. Fender's been around for a long time, Bruce Egnater was a boutique amp builder before he started his own line. As far as customer service is concerned, when I first was looking at Egnater, Bruce answered my questions personally. He's had some major growing pains. Personally, I would look at Jet City which Mike Soldano has a hand in, VHT and Peavey. Peavey is made in the USA.

I have been doing some heavy gigging with my Egnater 20 for about three years with zero problems. Many of the problems with the Rebel 30's, Renegade and Tweaker 40's have been either tube related or as Lou stated transformer related. The BJr suffers from boxy tone which can be remedied with an extension cab. It's the luck of the draw. I know many session players that use the Rebel 20 for it's sheer tonal versatility. The choice is yours.

Maybe I was lucky with my Egnater. I also build some of my own amps too.
Oh, I almost forgot. If you want a "Classic Fender Sound" you won't get it from a Blues Jr. You need to either go vintage or Blackface or Tweed reissue. And I mean 50's Tweed reissue not the Tweed covered Mexican made amps.

Billm has a nice business modding Blues Jrs because he has everyone convinced they sound pretty bad without his mods. Let you own ears decide. I still think the Egnater Tweaker blows it away.

I had problems with my original GDec 15 and it took Fender over 60 days to replace it. Customer service?

I'm sorry to hear you had troubles, shimmi. Mine has been a bastion of reliability. So far, that is. Knock on wood.
It doesn't surprise me all that much I guess. They ARE made in China, after all.
Perhaps those of us who bought one early in the development and manufacturing cycle were fortunate enough to get the better ones.

I imagine that once I build my Deluxe I'll likely try to sell my little Rebel mini-stack.
Not that I dislike the amp but more because I live in a smallish character house and my little studio is already pretty clogged with amps and P/A gear and I anticpate the 5E3 very likely blowing the doors off the Rebel.

Back to the truth, you may still be dissapointed no matter which amp you choose.

I don't think you will Beemer. I thought the same thing. The two amps are very different. The 5e3 is very versatile even though it seems simple enough. The Rebel is still In my music room and I still gig with it, but... I built an ABY box from BYOC and run both amps some simultaneously and get a total Tonegasm!!!!! It sound so unique and is seriously has endless tonal possibilities. It won't blow the doors off the Rebel. The Rebel can do a pretty sweet Tweed Princeton imitation. Combine both plus jumper the 5e3 channels for real fun.

If you put an amp through its paces in the music shop, you won't be. Whatever amp you buy, never take it home in a sealed box untried! Also bring your #1 guitar too.

They will show all their faults immediately when you get it working hard. Don't be in a rush to get it home.

The truth is I did that with every amp but my HRdlx and that was the only amp that disappointed with. I was lazy and I trusted Fender after using Fender gear for over 45 years without any issues. Boy, the times have really changed.

Sound advice, but I don't think it would have helped Shimmilou in his case.
