Are the new Champion 20, 40, and 100 that have started showing up in places like Musician's Friend simply replacements for the fading Frontman line? Any guesses when Fender will release specs or information on capabilities. They appear to have rudimentary modelling but doesn't appear as advanced as the Mustang line, but who can tell?

I saw a Champion 100 combo on Ebay last night and remember thinking that it looked suspiciously like a replacement for the aging Frontman platforms. Cosmetically it reminded me of the old Dyna-Touch DSP models.

I'm sad to see the real spring reverb go, but maybe it makes sense rather than putting those econo-size tanks in there.

I am moderately excited for this line. This is what new players need, not tubes, not LCD screens and a million other distractions. Just a solid analog Fender tone, and another channel to futz around with models and effects. Hopefully they won't skimp on the cabinets and the speakers. I can see these being very good-sounding amps if done right.

The effects modules use CMOS chips -- just as with all of Fender's DSP amps. The rest of the amp is likely IC-based as well.

Quite a few years ago, I was looking for a decent amp with a little power, and found the FM100H. I think it was $200 shipped with a 5 year warranty. I didn't care much for the Chinese copy of the Korean 8 series reverb tank, and replaced it with a 70's Accutronics 4 series. I play steel guitar through it, and although not as "warm" sounding as my "Twin" clone, it is a decent sounding, "clean" amp. A guitar playing nephew came over to jam, and also got some decent drive/more drive sounds out of it!
I'm sure there will always be a demand for an inexpensive SS amp, and Fender will continue to build them, (or have them built?). (Of course, I wouldn't bet on their longiveity if used by giging musicians, after all, they are "chip" amps!)

Sweetwater just posted some high res pics and you can see they are made in Indonesia, just like some of the Frontmen.

I can see a lot of guys getting this as their first amp and loving it.

I think they are of better quality than the Frontman amps,...I had a chance to try two of them out this past weekend,...the Champ 20 and Champ 40,...they sound pretty nice for a SS amp,and I would buy one for low power practice use at home. Not sure about gigging,though,...we'll have to wait and see on that one. Maybe someone here will gig with one and give us a detailed report! :) They seem to be built pretty solid, though!

I'd prefer to hear from someone who's gigged the amp for five or ten years so as to determine its reliability and durability.

Glitz is fleeting but trust is fundamental.

We may be waiting a while, then,Arjay! Afterall, these amps are just now coming out! My initial impression is that after trying one out over the weekend,I believe they will be a good line of amps,...we'll just have to wait and see! But don't take my word for it,...try one out yourself,...that is the only way you will be able to determine if you're going to like them or not! :)

I prefer REAL Fender amps.

You know......those designed by Leo Fender himself.

Is that why you enjoy trolling the Modern Amps forum so much? Please, tell us more about those priceless classics you don't play while seeking attention on the internets.

Go pound sand.

I've helped more people repair their amps in the last year while merely sitting at my keyboard than you'll ever own.

Happy trails, cupcake.
