So, I've just popped a Weber 12A150A into my mid nineties Blues Deulxe and along with a recent service including GT- 6L6 GC GE Groove Tubes and Harma ECC83 STRs it's now sounding great!!! (with the exception of more valve/chassis rattle, to be solved hopefully with silicon rubber rings which are in the post from eBay).

But I would like to gig it and although it is more than loud enough, I'd like a bit more movement of the air space (to get coser to a Marshall half stack) and would like to pop an extension cabinet underneath.

Now, the re-issue has an additional external out for this but mine doesn't, anyone know if it's an easy mod?

Cheers

Sacha

Hi Sacha Plus Deluxe,

It isn't very complicated, if the OT in your amp already has the 4 ohm tap (Green/Yellow wire). If so, you would only need to drill a hole in the chassis and add a "Transfer jack", which is a "13A", for the external 1x12 cab, and solder a couple of wires to the jack.

Another option that would require no modification at all, would be to get a 2x12 cab in an 8 ohm configuration and simply unplug the internal speaker from the jack and plug in the 2x12.

As for the rattle, the silicon rings will do nothing for chassis rattle, only for tube rattle. If it is the tubes rattling, they should have some kind of warranty. Make sure that all screws in the amp are tight, chassis mounting screws, baffle screws, speaker screws (not too tight as to bend the speaker frame), back cover screws, etc, should all be checked. And also make sure that it isn't something in the room rattling, maybe try moving the amp to another room.

Thanks Shimilou

I will have a chat to my amp tech anout the first option as I want to retain the use of the Weber speaker.

The rattle/buzz is only audible on a few frequencies and goes away when I press on fairly hard on the valves, it's less noticible with the original output valves in but still there. At first I thought that it might be the speaker but it does it with three different speakers albeit at a slightly different amount!!

First port of call is the valve dampers, then Im going to put a thicker piece of rubber/felt between the chasis and back board to see if that helps. third option is amp tech!

Cheers

Sacha

You might also check all the fasteners holding the baffle board to the cabinet itself. Loose cabinetry screws frequently cause irritating vibrational noises which are often mis-diagnosed as speaker or tube issues.

Thanks all.

Bit of an update, further to the advice here I've found the schematics for the Blues Deluxe and the Blues Deluxe Reissue. From the looks it's a fairly straightforward change to the newer wiring from the transformer. (as per shimilou's suggestion  )

I'll be adding a Switched jack socket to the Chassis myself and getting a quote from my amp tech to wire it up.

After that and when cash allows I'm going to order Harley Benton 2 x 12" speaker cab from Thomann's for around £150 delivered (no VAT in Jersey YEY!)

Harley Benton G212 Vintage guitar cabinet - 2x 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, 120watts/8ohm, 2x 60watts/16ohm, mono/stereo (switchable). thomann Manufactured from 16mm plywood, black Tolex trim strip. Dimensions: 520 x 742 x 300mm. Weight: 25kg, dust cover option (# 270251)

Sacha, that should significantly increase how much air your amp can push.

Good luck with the V30s and cab. :D

UPDATE: Harley Benton cabinet is here and sounds awesome with my Marshall DSL100H. I've just picked up my Deluxe from my amp tech who's fixed it (see my other thread) and has installed the 4 Ohm mod.

Pics and review to follow.....
