Ya think?

And every one of them save for the Bronco sees semi-regular stage use.

Thanks, KC9SYJ!

The Vibroverb took some *serious* money but some of the others were surprisingly affordable -- many of them no more costly than a new re-issue. A few arrived as basket cases in need of restoration which I routinely do as a sideline for a select clientele. So there's a bit of "sweat equity" invested there. But I perform most of my own servicing and maintenance which helps with cost-containment......kinda like having my own cake and enjoying it as well.

What is that saying? A gigging musician is someone that will put a $3000 amp into a $500 car and drive 100 miles to a gig that pays $50. (or something like that)

Not likely to materialize. Such a head implies the need for a matching cab and a period-correct re-issue enclosure would be the 39" x 29" x 11.5" big box, an unduly large-and-sonically-mediocre piece of gear that nobody wants to lug around. You'd know that if you ever owned one.

Are those mods applicable to the original SFs (MV models included) ?

Mighty tasty!

Very close to Fender's original sonic paradigm.

Fender makes too many awesome amps. How can one be expected to decide which one to buy? :|

Should one buy a '65 DRRI or the new 68 tribute silverface deluxe?

Test drive each, preferably in a comparative A-B scenario, then decide.

Perhaps you'll buy them both.

Yep. Thanks again for all the recent advice you've been giving specifically responding to my posts. I have a test drive problem in that I hate to be "that guy" in GC and I really feel like to truly test drive one would need to play pretty loud. Also...my GC anyway....lots of other noise. I'm sure both amps are great and way better than my playing.

I know that the advice always given is "what are your needs?" Some people want to play clean jazz and others want to play thrash metal. I like Nirvana but I also like clean "shimmering" Fender tones, more and more.

Again, I'm thinking DRRI or the new 68 would blow me away and I've love either...but just spitballing for fun.

Since you already thing DRRI is nothing great compared to the original, I wonder if many might consider the "modified" 68's feature actual improvements as Fender states in the description--like actually MORE touch sensitive??? I thought 65 deluxe was *the* standard in clean tone, which includes touch sensitivity. Reduced feedback and a few other things I read...plus apparently a dirt channel,,both channels having reverb.

Hmmmm.

Since I ask a lot of questions and receive a lot of advice here, let me give something back.

Somebody has posted a really in depth review of the new amp here, comparing it to original and to a supersonic:
