Why two? Well, I swapped the first one after 6 days. After mainly being used at "bedroom" volumes, I turned it on and there was literally no gain between 2 and 8 on the Volume knob, and then right around 8 it went into this tinny, metallic-resonant overdrive. Lunched, in other words.

I had run through its complete range already, and it normally had a nice, fat clean from 1-4, a bit of edge and plenty of low/highs, up to 8, and then it gets crunchy. But that was "normal" and lasted all of 5 or 6 days.

Not too impressed, folks. My guess is that in addition to the Mercury Magnetics output transformer, the "Groove" Tubes (not my faves, by a longshot) and the generally very solid look and "feel" of the build... they used 15 cent resistors somewhere close to the front end of the gain stage. Oops.

Guitar Center swapped it, immediately. But it's nerve-wracking, you know? If I went out on a tour, I'd bring the '65 Deluxe, instead. Sorry about that, Eric.

Not raggin' on Clapton. The ECs are nice. I even told my gf, the day before the Tremolux went belly-up, that it had "... a really solid feel and tone to it, not flimsy and fragile, like the two "handbuilt" Vox amps (AC4HW & AC15HW1X) that I had bought, pretty much loved, and then ditched because they felt like they'd blow up, and clearly had some ground issues, etc."

Meanwhile, my EC Strat was part of the swap for the first Tremolux. Putting a cheap 25db gain in the harness was one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. My old American Special sounds ten times better. And with a Beano Boost on it, well, forget the EC Strat.

Ain't technology grand?

pathetic earthlings, a vox ac30 , rangemaster and a strat is all it takes. lol. i had an opertunity some time ago to run my e.c. strat through a REAL 1956 twin and that my friends was one of the highlights of my life. the amp looked like it was used as a boat anchor or drug behind a truck down a dirt road. the sound was incrdible. but the ac30 is my go to amp period. i like being able to take the heads off the first three rows.lol. sorry to highjack the thread but the REAL tweed twin is the sh#! . sorry to hear about the problems with the amp you bought. you would think that with fender charging what they do for that amp things would be different. damn shame. to heck with e.c. he's a rich wanker anyway, with what he charges for tickets.

If Vox had never existed, I wouldn't miss them for five microseconds!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Oh, c'mon. We'd miss 'em for 4 micro-seconds. Just not 5.

Actually, I'd bemoan my foolishness at ditching my germanium Vox Tone Bender for precisely four microseconds. OTOH, my Vox Super Beatle doesn't rate even a mention.
