Well...last night after we played I left my DRRI on standby and put the cover on...forgetting to turn the power off. It was pretty hot in there this morning (it's a heavy custom cover). I played a little bit and didn't notice anything, but...I only played for about 10 minutes.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks all!

Check the idle bias. If it is within tolerance, prolly no damage.

I think it should be fine. A valve amp runs hot on any given day so I doubt it got much hotter running idle under a cover. When you play it for a while next time, stick your hand near the power valves and feel how much heat is radiated, that will give you a good indication if it got way hotter under the cover when you felt it in the morning after.

+1

I once left my '78 Twin Reverb on standby for over forty-eight hours with no apparent lingering issues. We'd played a Friday night saloon gig with the intention to play the next evening as well. However, Saturday afternoon there was brawl in the club with one patron stabbed and two others pummeled by bottles and pool cues. The police closed the club for the remainder of the weekend and it wasn't until Monday around noon that we were permitted to return to pick up our gear. It was then that I discovered I'd left the amp on, in standby mode. At rehearsal two days later, the amp played fine -- just as always. Old Fenders are tough. Some of the new ones, too.

I seem to recall reading about SRV once purposefully leaving his Super Reverb on for days, just to get it "really cooking" for the next time he plugged in.

Isn't normal for amps to stay on stand by for days without incurring any damage?

Not really an expert, but seems normal & ok to me ..!

Stratele,

To check for damage to the tubes. I'd think that they would be the first to show possible damage in this scenario.

IMO with just the heater voltage, there is no enough heat to damage amps . With too much heat , cover ( tolex , plastic , vinyl ? ) will melt .

But this is my opinion .

The amp seems to work well.

Not with cover or course

.. meant an amp on standby (or on) for extended periods .. maybe days. I don't believe this may cause any harm to an amp.

There was no discoloration or damage to the cover or tolex...seems to be okay so far but I haven't had the chance to play for any length of time. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to work it out; then I'll know for certain, but...I think it's fine.
I do appreciate all of the responses.
