Here I am pondering between a Supersonic 22 and a Blues Deluxe. I scroll down the list of the past 4 months of posts, and I'm seeing nothing but grief and aggravation coming from ya'll regarding what I deem to be 'chickenshit' issues with these amp. Now here's the question: Is Fender building these thing to perform to the level one should expect considering the way you all want to use them :?: I have no intention of pulling the trigger on any of this gear if they are unrealiable. I owned a 61 Fender Concert amp for years, without any issues. Of course, we weren't running 'em on '11' and keeping coffee hot on the tubes back then, either.

Yes, you'll always get 'chickenshit' complaints as some people just have a need to complain. However, there have been some issues with both these amps. Some with reverb on both, some with footswitching on the SS22. I've had both issues on my SS22 and my friend who bought the DRRI had reverb issues. I had mine corrected at the closest authorized rpr. cntr. under warranty. Now it's fine.

Granted, this should not happen, but one of the things I do like about Fender is their extensive warrant rpr. network. It was easily fixed with no questions nor hassles.

I love the SS22 and it works fine now. I had to decide between it and the DRRI and chose the SS22 because of it's additional features. Wish it had the Tremelo, but it's other features outweighed the lack of Tremelo for my use.

I'd buy it again. (Actually I would buy the head version, but it wasn't available when I got mine.)

If you like it (either one), get it.

At 22 watts, probably better doing it right the first time and source a SF Deluxe Reverb.

The right combination of tubes, to your taste, and you'll have a sweet amp. With amps, I have had much better results buying the floor models. They might have minor cosmetic issues, but basically have been tested so you know that they typically work well. IME, many complaints about the problems with newer amps, whether reverb or tubes, are due to rough treatment during shipping, so best to try first when possible.

+2 I tried the SS22 and couldn't bond with it. Too noisy and didn't care for the reverb and I just couldn't get what I wanted or expected out of it. Personally, I'll never own any current production Fender amps. But, you may like them. I keep trying to like the new Fender amps, but I think I'm so used to the old Blackface and Silverface tone and reliability I can't get past it.

I too would look for an old Deluxe Reverb and pass on both the SS and HRD series. Not a chickenshit excuse, just an observation from trying them out. I gig with two different people from two different bands who have the SS22. One loves it and the other has had tons of problems with his and no longer gigs with it. I think the Blues Deluxe is fairly reliable, but I just don't like the tone of them with any of my guitars. They always sound like somebody threw a blanket over the speaker. This is why I started building my own amps. At least if something goes wrong, I only have myself to blame. After six months and roughly a dozen gigs, My 5e3 clone's been great.

In my original post I misread (a brain fart) the second amp referred to as being the DRRI...sorry for the confusion. I also have a Blues Deluxe Reissue and like it very much. Only problem I ever had with it was a broken footswitch button (mechanically) which was also fixed under warranty.

To choose between the two, I'd pick the SS22 only because of less power. The small venues we play in this very rural area I live won't allow me to open up the BDRI, so it stays home most of the time. It can be quite loud at it's sweet spot. If it weren't for that, I probably would use the BDRI more often.

Does Arjay bear a frightening resemblance to Captain Kangaroo?

Hey I loved Captain Kangaroo as a kid -- especially whenever they set up all the Lionel rolling stock on "train day"!

Could Bob Keeshan play a Stratocaster?

Back on the point. An 'old' Deluxe Reverb was suggested. What model year are we talking here???? Would that be the SF??....or....maybe I should go after one of those '64 Custom Vibroverbs one sees on eBay from time to time. Any thoughts??
