I am thinking of getting a 2x 12" speaker extension cabinet with two 16 ohm c.rexs in for my drri. I have tried a 1x 12" speaker (8 ohm) extension cab but dont like the sound of the 4 ohm load on the amp. It seams to effect the sound quality & break up + its not all the great for the tubes/components.
When using the cab. I would not run all 3 speakers at once to maintain a 8 ohm load.
Has anyone tried this?

You can run all three speakers at 4 ohms with the internal speaker plugged into the main jack and the external speaker cab plugged into the ext jack, or just the external cab at 8 ohms plugged into the main jack, either will be fine, whichever sound that you like best.

The amp is designed for a 4 or 8 ohm speaker load. The statement that "its not all the great for the tubes/components", is just not true.

Shimmilou Thanks for the info.
I did notice that two 8 ohm speakers change the break up tone & lowers the headroom a bit.
I am curious how a cab with 2 16 ohm speakers sound.

Some people prefer that earlier breakup, which the DR is known for, in a good way (classic 6V6 sound). I would also like to know your thoughts on the 2x12. Try it and let us know. :)

I've played my DRRI periodically wired to a 2 x 15 Showman cab (a pair of 16-ohm D130F JBL's, wired in parallel). It sounds outrageously beefy!
