I've been using a Twin Reverb reissue for the last few years and love it, mostly playing clean or with light to moderate verb.

But recently I was checking out a Super Sonic 22 and it was fun to dabble with the hot channel. Then I heard that they make a Super Sonic Twin that also has a Twin Reverb channel (but they didn't have one here).

So I'm wondering how close the Super Sonic Twin would come as a replacement for the Twin Reverb, or if it's missing out on something (other than the vibrato). If it's not going to have all the rich clean tones of the Twin Reverb, then I'd rather just keep the TR and maybe get the 22 to play around with at home.

Anyone have some experience on the Super Sonic Twin?

I have only ever played around with them at the store, but I would not let go of that Twin Reverb. Such a good amp.

Do you prefer your amps hissy or extra hissy?

It won't do better what the Twin Reverb is already known best for.

I don't have the SS Twin, but I do have the SS 100 head (same amp) and IMO it can't be beat. In addition to the excellent Twin tones you get the even better (IMO) tones of the Bassman AND the whole second channel which in itself covers a whole lot of territory. As for the hissy comment I don't know if Arjay speaks from experience or just from hearsay, but it is non-existent in my amp.

I saw and heard the prototype on display in the Fender booth at the Tempe Guitar show a couple of years ago. The hiss was audible even over the periodic PA announcements and the routine crowd noise. I've since played several at stores and they were all the same. Take yours into a recording studio and you'll see how the board engineer cringes at the very sight of it.

No need to take it anywhere, I've been playing long enough (45+ yrs) to recognize a problem amp when I hear one, and mine is not one of them. As I said I have experienced no hiss or hum or any extraneous noise of any kind, just awesome Fender tones. I have read of those problems in both the 22 & 60 watt versions, but the problem simply doesn't exist in my 100.

Then consider yourself the luckiest man in Fender ampdom.

Hiss is non existant in my 60W. Hiss problems can be attributed to $@!& tubes also. I have had a couple amps with these problems and a change from crap new production tubes cured it! Problems reported are not the amps fault many times. Stock GT tubes can be crap.

This is a well-documented issue.

My SSTwin is good for me, no issues either, I did have a reveb tank issue but that goes for all modern fender amps that use the same tank manufacturer. It was easy to fix the reverb tank issue. I also believe the 100/Twins are better made than the 60 or 22's. The SS Twin also has some really neat features that kick the Twin Reverb to the curb IMO.

I had two SS twins in head and cab set up. The first was returned with a fault, the second I sold as it just didn't live up to what I expected of it.
I now own a 65 TRRI and love it. Def a keeper for me for the distant future. Smashes the SS twin pieces sound and tone wise. JMHO.

I've owned a '78 Twin Reverb for 35 years and a '65 TRRI since 2001. Both have been absolutely trouble-free and virtually bullet-proof.

I don't know anybody with a SS (of any persuasion) who didn't have to monkey with the sonofabitch to make it work properly.

It's not a Twin if it is a HEAD and CAB, even if the Head is the same chassis that goes into the TWIN. People on here are very sticky about generalizations of amp pedigree/configuration.
I am glad your opinion on the 65 TRRI favours your decisions. I think the SSTwin anihilates the 65 TRRI on every platform, but that's just me.

OP, if you are listening, best you head out to a store and test them for yourself, you must be happy to live with it.
