It would be nice to share some concerns and see what's down the road with regards to changes for some of our favorite amps.

Three questions off the top of my head that I would like to ask,

1) Why are most of the preamp tubes alway's a 12ax7 ? It would appear, most players prefer a lower gain value tube in the V1 slot and the phase inverter slot.

2) Most owners of the Vibrolux Reissue, continue to complain about a hiss noise coming from this amp. Will this ever be resolved without the owner having to make changes to the curcuit himself ?

3) Will the Famed Blues Deluxe get a more efficient Speaker upgrade like it's sibling, the HRDlX ? Also, will it start shipping with a lower gain value preamp tube in the V1 slot for a more usable volume sweep of the dial ?

I have a lot of Respect for Shane Nicholas and the work that he does at Fender. Hopefully, he will chime in. :)

I spoke personally with Mr. Nichols three years ago at the Tempe guitar show about your #2 issue.

Nothing seems to have been done yet......

I believe this is to get the most gain out of the amp. Maybe, to compete with solid-state amps that tend to be a bit more "in-your-face" at lower volumes. Just a WAG.

Plus, not as many suppliers of new 12AT7, 12AY7, and 5751 as there are 12AX7 manufacturers.

Leo knew through his experimentation that a dramatic jump-start was necessary for a magnetic electric guitar pickup to effectively drive a cascaded-stage audio amplifier, unlike a phonograph with a ceramic cartridge/stylus. And the Western Electric circuits he'd adapted for his designs all demonstrated that the hotter the first-stage output, the more effective the tone-control stack.
