Hi -

Just moved from the UK to the US. Naively I plugged my Fender Acoustasonic (220V) in the US's mains/socket (110V). The amp does not turn on at all. I wouldn't think that 110V current would damage a 220V amp, but does anybody know what the problem could be? Maybe not enough voltage to power it? Blown fuse? Or could it really been damaged?
Any help, suggestions really appreciated.

Thank you,

Gus

Hi gus,

Definitely not enough voltage, and maybe the fuse blew, but likely no damage done. You will have to change the PT to a US version in order for the amp to work, or wire up a 220 volt outlet in your house, such as that used for a stove or AC unit. Using 60 Hz on a tranny designed for 50 Hz is not a problem.

Thanks Shimmilou.

Not an easy amp to check the fuse, wherever it is inside.
I've order a transformer Simran AC-500, 500 Watts Step Up and Down Voltage
If that does not work, then it's got to be the fuse and a job for tech to do I guess.

Your definitely need the higher voltage, no "if" about that. I am not a fan of using a transformer to feed another transformer for a guitar amp. The best bet would be to replace the existing transformer with a proper US version. You could contact Fender for the specifics.

Your amp won't work because not enough voltage and nothing wrong append to the amp ,no reason to blow fuse , there are not enough voltage.

Plug it on you kitchen stove 240 volts outlet and it will work . But you need a stove power cord.

Using a step up transformer will be the cheapest way to use your amp. Not expensive. Check the right watts spec on the back of your amp ; this step up transformer is good to 500 watts. This is not the power output but power need from the wall outlet/ step up transformer

Thanks guys. The thing is that I might get sent back to the UK in a couple of years. So wouldn't want to replace anything internally in the amp. I wonder what those musicians and bands touring the world do.
