A big +1 on GT! Unfortunately the GT 5751 is hard to find, looks like they don't offer them anymore, and they don't have any 5751s at Musicians friend.

ok- looks like I will be ordering a 5751 for v1, and a 12at7 for v3. will report back when it happens.

as far as a speaker, I got a great deal on an eminence texas heat. I was debating whether to put the speaker in the bdri, or buy an empty cab, and use it as an extension speaker. I am leaning towards the cab because I can use it with other amps too.

as always, input is welcome and appreciated

I've checked specs and sound samples and reviews, and would like to get a Texas Heat, with the Red White and Blues a contender also. I like the idea of putting the speaker in a cab to test first. Of course the speaker will respond differently in a closed-back cab than in the amp.

I am thinking of putting my texas heat speaker in the amp, as well as few tube changes.

quick question to those who have changed the speaker. is it an easy swap? will the speaker slide out without removing the chassis? looks kind of tight. any advice is welcome

The Chassis has to come out. Dont forget to remove both 6l6 power tubes first and unplug the speaker cable inside...and unplug the amp itself. Lay the chassis carefully over the side of the amp cab, as it will still have a connecting cable/wire that doesnt need to be removed. There will be just enough length to lay the chassis partly on the side, so it's out of the way for speaker instalation.

That would be the reverb cables, and at least remove the cable tie-down on the side of the cab. I would pull the reverb tank before laying the amp flat on its face for easy speaker installation. Two screws through a bag aren't that much trouble to remove.

I strongly suspect that you are going to like this recipe for a more efficient speaker with the lower gain value preamp tubes :D My Blues Deluxe sings like never before with these few simple changes. I will say, it's as good as any great tube amp I have played thru over the years with these changes in place.
