a few months back I wanted to get back into tube amps. after testing out several, I decided on the blues deluxe reissue. took it home, and 1st impression-this baby is loud! I still loved the sound, so it is a keeper.

played my first gig with it last night. it cut thru just great, and I had the amp on about 4. the guys in the band complimented my on how much better this amp sounded. my brother as well as a few other musicians in the audience said the same.

the only thing I might do is get an extension cab. everything else is fine as is. with the 5 year warranty, I feel pretty good about it

I just read about your gig last night in the Lounge area.
Glad that everything went well!

I have one too congrats, seriously drop a Eminence GB 128 speaker in there, it does wonders and a new speaker cable from Amazon. Running a buffer pedal up front gives that channel even better sound. Loves my Bogners pedals also.

I also have this amp and gig it as well. I will offer a few suggestions for making this amp an absolute Moniker to own. If you research what I outline here, you will find that most owners of this amp, have made these changes.

The 3 12AX7 preamp tube configuration that comes with these amps, are somewhat generic..like a basic factory guitar set up. Changing out the 12ax7 preamp tube in the V1 slot which is the first stage clean channel, will allow you to use your volume dial from 1-12..unlike now. Changing the 12ax7 preamp tube in the V3 phase inverter slot with a 12AT7 preamp tube, will further remove the jitters of your amp for a smoother/mellow clean sound.

I have recently switched out my stock eminence special design speaker, for the Italian made Jensen C12K 100 watt speaker. All Problems solved Now, I can actually EQ my amp from Bright to warm with ease and the Bass/Bottom end stays very tight and really...this speaker retains all it's integrity as the volume climbs upwards for stage level.

After hearing this Speaker in the new Signature George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe amp and actually playing it, I knew this was the speaker for me.. notice I said for 'me' The Jensens come standard in just about every high end Fender amp...I can see why Fender uses the Jensen speakers. However, the Celestion G12-P80 is also a great choice and a high end speaker in my opinion/experience..I could have went with the Celestion as well.

If you ever do get around to changing out the speaker..and you will at some point...go with a speaker that has a 100watt rating so it can handle the output of your amp with ease

Good stuff musicmatty. A 5751 in V1, and a 12AT7 in V3 in HRDlx and BDlx amps is quite popular, for good reason. 8)

Without a speaker change for something more efficient, that preamp tube lineup, is not going to yield much :(

alright- any suggestions for tubes? I want the clean channel clean, and some crunch in channel 2.

as far as speakers, a have an eminence texas heat that I just need a cab for. think i'll just add it as an extension, then i'll have I can use with other amps.

no metal played here, and the less i have to do with internal mods the better.

again- thanks y'all

I dont like at7's at all it neuters the tone, I did try it in the v1 and then the v3 no likey! lost it balls and that. 5751 could be a good thing in the v1, My pedals sounded bad with low gain tubes also. I run a Gold lion,Telefunken and a Slyvania and stock power tubes for now. MY SG and les Paul with high output pup stay pretty clean with the volume at 3 to 4 which is pretty loud. Like I said a buffer really helps! Just running a long cord kills some high end.

There are many choices, how much do you want to spend? I have had mixed results with Sovtek 5751, especially in V1, some good and some produce a little extra hum. EH is decent, maybe a little bright for my taste, not as warm as other brands. JJ 5751 is pretty good, but seemingly a bit more gain than some other brands, very close to their 12AX7 in sound. Maybe the overall best bang for buck in a NOS might be the JAN Phillips 5751, which I've also used and are great in V1. My favorite has been GE for V1, but they can be pricey, and there are a few different types, grey Plate, black Plate, commercial versions, but all are good choices with a little different tone for each. JAN GE would have to be the absolute best, but those can be very pricey. I would say that the GE is a bit better than the Phillips, but not by much. I haven't tried the RCA 5751, almost certainly great, but they are very, very pricey and there are different types also.

I once had a few CBS-Hytron 5751's that I used when re-tubing a client's 6G14A Showman......those were some sweet bottles! They're pricey and quite rare now (if they can be found at all) but they're worth the price of admission.

I don't mind paying a bit more for good ones, but since tubes are non-returnable, I don't want to spend a lot of money experimenting. it can get a bit costly.

any recommendations on where to buy?

I like Groove tubes....taste in tubes is purely a subjective matter. musciansfriend.com is a good online source.
