Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone has tried Mullard tubes in the Blues Jr amp. I love the sound of my amp stock with either one of my Amer DLX Strats but, I wouldn't mind beefing it up a bit. I'm also thinking about changing out the stock Fender Speaker for a Celestion Vintage 30.
Anyone got any other ideas?

Thanks
Scott

I would check out the tested speakers from the BillM site.
A speaker that sounds good in a typical open back cabinet might disappoint in the Blues JR.
Go for something that has a lot of bottom like the Swamp Thang or Cannibas Rex.

Regardless of the speaker that's ultimately selected, the matchbox-sized cabinet will thoroughly throttle any sonic potential from such an upgrade.

How about this for a mod. since you asked for suggestions:
Image
Blues Jr. converted to a head...Peter Mathers head cab and a Mojotone horizontal slant 2X12 w/ a Swamp Thang and a Wizard.
No change in the amp's electronics. Much better sound with the bigger cab as Arjay has suggested.

That's the most efficient method of wringing some real tone (and volume) out of some punkass little amp. My 2 x 12 piggyback Princeton rig is similar.
