He was right but the solder joint wasn't cracked... There was something on the board between the two points that was conductive.. Didn't look like solder.. I reflowed just for general purpose..

I would say that bluesky636 nailed it right on the head. It wasn't the ribbon cable at all, but cracked solder joints that you saw arcing. :wink:

How can a ribbon cable came bad ?


The ribbon cables in the Hot Rod series (of which the Blues Deluxe/Deville are included) are very stiff and fragile. They have a tendency to break where the wires connect to the PCB if over handled. It has been recommended to run a bead of clear silicone along the PCB where the wires connect to help stabilize them. I have done so and it seems to work.

You are right and I know.

They are not causing pop and crack and the where over handle when searching for the bad solder causing pop and crack.

stratele52, it's called the "shotgun approach", meaning that if you replace everything, you will eventually "fix" it. :wink: :lol:
