Hi guys,

I finally decided to take the amp back, it has too much hiss in the clean channel, especially when you record it and the FX loops has a serious issue, as this is the second amp, it's probably a bad serie, but I already lost too much time with this amp, sad because it's a nice sounding amp.

thanks for your help,

Hans

I think I know a few things to do to possibly fix the problems in the fx circuit.

The fx circuit, uses op amps not tubes, to amplify the signals from send and return. Or so I was told I haven't gotten to check the schematic.

Now you may know there are cheap junk op amps and hi quality op amps, some much noisier than others.

First order is to check out what op amps are installed.

Second perhaps the voltage should be upped in the op amps the prevent possible distortion. more voltage can mean fore clean headroom. depends on the voltage already being applied. My first guess is it maybe 5 volts since that is what the cpu needs, and cutting costs fender may have opted to not have another voltage.

Third there is a micro processor which may be too close to the op amps. You remember that the installed audio pc cards had less noise than the motherboard audio chipsets. So distance from the cpu can be critical

And lastly the power supply may be not filtered good enough.

I would think a daughter board could be made cheap and the same circuit could be made on it with better components, cut the power to the old circuit and cut the signal traces and intercept them and rout them to the daughter board.
Then put the daughter board in a Faraday cage to isolate in from transformer noise and cpu noise. Should be pretty cheap to make the daughter board and populate it with quality components and cutting the traces is easily reversed.

I don't have time right now to do this, but might when work slows down Octoberish.
I am posting in case any one knows what op amps are used and what voltages are applied so that I can start making notes now for when I do have time. Any info would be appreciated.
