Just found the schematics of the amps, but I have a hard time to check were each tube is :( is there a simpler diagram where one can check placement of the tubes ?

thanks,

Hans

There should be a tube chart on left inside wall of amp.

Just swap any of the 12AX7/ECC83 ones around from the channel you are not testing on, circuit diagram will tell you which ones. But first does the buzz/noise get softer/louder with the fx send/return level controls? And was it on all channels?

Will do Aaron, one thing I found strange from day one, is that some tubes do seem not to glow as if they are broken, when I replace them with another tube (JJ tube ECC83 S) they glow, but they don't with the stock ones ...

Will do swap some this evening and let you know,

thanks,

Hans

Just swapped the V7 and V8 tubes with those from V4 and V6, still the same issue, just with a small patch cable in the FX send and return, no FX unit, additional buz in the signal on all channels, as if you disconnect your guitar with the cable still in the input jack, this really is driving me nuts :(

Should I return the amp ?

thanks,

Hans

BTW turning the send and return level controls doesn't change the buzz much, the hiss yes, but not the buz,

Also you can hear a loud pop when you switch the FX on with the pedal, really annoying.

thanks,

Hans

To demo the issue better here is a sample I recorded, so here is what I do :

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/i1l7raksfkl2o7h/oSkmDcAuwG

1. sample starts with just clean channel all buttons on pedal off (simple patch cable between send and return)
2. after a few seconds I switch the FX on (seems that the pop becomes quieter after you use the pedal several times, the two first times it's horrible, but in this recorded sample it's acceptable)

So you can clearly hear the additional buzz here ...

Any suggestions here ?

thanks,

Hans

Now this is strange, even with all knobs turned off, then buzz is still present as if this generates something in the power amp ..... ?

It's hard to tell how loud and offensive the buzz and hiss is, so I will just take that it is louder than what's acceptable, in which case have you tried a different outlet in your home? Did you try the first one at the store with similar results? Maybe bad mains hum in your home. If not your mains then take it back for another replacement or refund. My SSTwin UK spec is acceptably quiet with all knobs turned down, and up actualy. Try another one in store.

Does your power plug have an earth attached?

Hi Aaron,

yes I have earth attached to power plug, tried in store too with the same results, unfortunately the store doesn't have other models to test, so I'm up into the dark with this one or will need to send it back, but as this is already the second one I doubt they will replace it a third time :(

I'll try without earth on power plug to see ... maybe that can give an idea ...

thanks,

Hans

Just tried without earth plug, but same results, i'm going to contact a tube amp specialist here tomorrow as Fender France doesn't have it's own tech center, and the one who repaired the first amp seems not to have done a good job ...

thanks,

Hans

A nother question I have is why does the loop produce such a big pop when you engage the FX switch on pedalboard ? After a few on offs the pop becomes less audible, but is this supposed to be like this ?

thanks,

Hans

No, it's not supposed to pop loudly, I don't recall mine doing this at a level I would notice. It does use relays to switch signal paths so you can expect to hear a changeover, but I remember my foot switch makes more noise mechanically than the electrical noise heard from the amp. But once again it's all subjective to who's listening.

Did you try this with both the fx levels all the way down (anti-clockwise)?

The buzzing certainly seems to be coming from power amp section, maybe a badly balanced phase inverter tube or bad power tube. How is the buzz affected by the full adjustment of the bias and dampening settings on the back panel and 100/25watt modes? You can run the amp on two output tubes only too, to check output tubes (pull out inside pair or outside pair)

Hi Aaron,

I tried to remove a pair (outside, then inside) of tubes and always with the same results, the pops get away after a few on off switchings, but the buzz stays present ... I'm goin g to talk with an amp doctor here tomorow and see if I'm keeping the beast or sending it back ...

thanks for your help!!
