I need some info here peeps, I hope I explain this properly.

I recently bought an extension cab for my combo amp. The amp is 4 ohms and the cab is also (amp 2x10, cab 1x15).

The plan was to run one or the other (home use, not gigging) but then I read through the amp manual and it stated that the performance of the amp is degraded somewhat by the use of an extension speaker cab. According to the manual, the point of distortion or breakup occurs earlier with the simultaneous use of an extension speaker cab. Here's the relevant quote from the manual regarding the use of the extension speaker jack:

"EXTERNAL SPEAKER JACK - Plug-in connection for an external speaker. This jack is wired in parallel with the MAIN SPEAKER JACK, and must only be used in conjunction with the MAIN SPEAKER JACK. Should the EXTERNAL SPEAKER JACK be used without also using the MAIN SPEAKER JACK, there will be no sound. Note that the amplifier is optimized for a 4 ohm speaker load, and that the speakers in the cabinet are wired for 4 ohms. Should a total load of more or less than 4 ohms be used, the amplifier will not put out its
maximum power output before distortion occurs."

I guess I don't understand if you actually can run both together at the same time or not? Can it be done safely without damaging the amp? At home I usually play at lower volumes so it's not like the amp is really being laid into.

Is using less power (down to 2 ohms) bad for the amp?

Thanks!

Yes you can use your amp at 2 ohms total load . Fender transformer can hold 100% mismatch .

Basically, what the manual is saying is that when using an extension cabinet, the sound will be different than when using the internal speakers alone, and that this is normal and nothing wrong in doing so. This difference in sound will be noticeable as a change in the distortion (breakup) point, meaning it will occur at a lower volume level, and the amp will have lower output power. The difference will not be extreme, but noticeable. You might prefer the sound one way better than the other, so experiment and have fun.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.
