I have a question regarding the differences between the Deville 410 manufactured in Mexico and a Deville 410 manufactured in the USA. I'd like to read any comments that can enlighten me/educate me regarding this matter.
Thx

Hi mbarnes,

The difference is basically where the same components are put together, USA or Mexico. The only other real difference is that after about 2005, Fender used RoHS compliant solder, which sucks. Other than that the amps are almost exactly the same, with circuit revisions through the years, which usually amount to little more than changing a few component values, or adding components here and there. The revisions happen regardless of where an amp is made.

In the case of some amps, as with the BJr, the MIM versions can actually be improved USA versions.

+1000!

RoHS-compliant solder is the kiss of death for any amp, regardless of brand, product line, or country of origin.

Thanks shimmilou for your reply. So all the criticisms I hear is hype and elitism?
Know anyone with a Silvertone 1484 for sale?

A little unwarranted snobbery in this case, yes.

Are you sure about that 1484 amp? It is quite a bit different, and it is definitely NOT anywhere near 60 watts. It does sound pretty sweet when properly serviced. I have done a few of them myself, but wouldn't really want to own one, other than for the cool-factor.

I'd take an old Silvertone 1484, Danelectro, Valco/Supro amp over a DeVille any day of the week. It ain't always about watts. 20-30 watts will let you gig almost any venu. The Dano DM25 was an awesome amp. I had a DM10 as a kid.
I'm seriously thinking about building a Supro amp from these guys to go with my Supro guitar. Click on kits to see what I'm talking about.

Yeah, two of the 1484 amps that I've serviced are used professionally for gigging, and both owners are thrilled with them. I just don't care for the odd, dual voltage doubler power supplies in the 1484. Couple that with the fact that there is a lot of variance in the components from amp to amp. But, as I said, nice cool factor, and you're correct, sweet sound that's tough to match with a modern amp.

Yeah Lou, That's what makes the old Silvertone stuff so cool. They lasted so long for a reason. I think it's the simplicity of all the old stuff. I built a little 5 watt true point to amp, no turret board, just terminal strips and I'll tell you what, it was a challenge. I don't know where the circuit design came from, but it has an EL84, 12ax7 and a solid state rectifier.

Here's the schematic. I know a lot of amps are just modded other amps, but if anyone know what this thing is modeled after, I'd love to know. It sounds great.

It looks like an early Champ with an added tone stack and SS instead of tube rectified. Cool.

Thanks Lou, much appreciated. If you can believe this, I bought a brand new empty cabinet from a cabinet builder on EBay for eighty bucks, installed the 12" 8ohm Jenson Mod speaker that came with mt 5e3 clone and run that little sucker through it and do small gigs and some rehearsal stuff with it and it's been a great little amp. It's a bit more aggressive than My Champ, but it seems to have its own voice. It was a fun build too and was like $215. When I throw a clean boost in front of it, it screams and is pretty loud.
