Regrettable but certainly preferable to being stuck with a lemon.

As I mentioned, play the replacement amp in the store before you take it home. Check out all the features and drive it hard enough to ascertain that there are no issues whatsoever.

It's like using the drive-thru at your local Micky-Dee's or Bravo Kilo. Nine times out of ten you check the bag to confirm that they got your order correct and nothing is amiss. But the tenth time you don't and you're twenty or thirty miles down the road when you discover that the Lettuce-Mac and fries you asked for somehow morphed into a fish sandwich and a bean-sprout salad.

Always check your purchase before leaving!

+2 I have never taken an amp or guitar out of a music store in a box. First of all, I don't feel like getting rid of a box. With an amp, I put it through its paces with my own guitar sometimes two. It gets cranked, the volume, tone knobs get used Usually one of my single coil and either a P90 or Humbucker equipped guitar. Same thing with guitars. if I serious about a guitar, I'll brin one of my own amps. I also go as soon as it opens too so I don't have to compete with the 12 year old wankers. It sounds stupid, but it gives me at least a slight shot at getting something I really want.

Sounds pretty smart to me. Although, I usually prefer to test mine at home, that way I'm uninhibited without an audience, and as stated, no noise from the others in the store. I do agree about enjoying the stores when they first open, very quiet, but that is a short time period. The risk that I run is having to make a return trip to exchange something that I don't like........which means I might spot something else that I want on the return trip. :o

Some people hold back in the store. I've been playing in front of people since I was 11 years old so it doesn't bother me. I usually am the distraction because If I'm trying something out, it's because I'm interested in taking it home. The Mom and Pop shop I usually deal with encourage cranking up the amp and want you to do it in the store. Usually the owners or one of the employees are twisting the dials for you. That way if there's a problem, they know about it too. If it comes with a bad tube, they'll replace it on the spot. That's why I like Mom and Pop shops. It's a shame so many have closed shop.

Well guys, got back today, swapped out the amp took it out the box at the store tried it out it sounded completely different, a tone machine, like night and day. Played a few guitars through it and it was fine. Got home, it sounded fantastic.

yeah I love it, I mean it is not perfect, I would like little tweaks here and there but for the price I got it for it is amazing. I plan on swapping the Groove Tubes and putting all JJ's

These CAN BE fantastic amps. Stock its good, but after the BillM mods these little guys are awesome. The best mod I did however was simply swapping v1 for a AT7 (lower gain) and learning that opening the master wide open and the using it like an amp without a master control opened up the sound.
I obviously don't use any preamp distortion (or as little as possible.)

I was in the studio recently and used my amp instead of all the amps they had to choose from. The engineer inquired several times about the amp because he liked the tone we were getting.
