Hey All, I'm looking for any information I can get on the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Bluesman. I'm new to the guitar world and have gotten into Blues guitar. Recently I missed a Bluesman amp listed for $500.00 and started to research this amp not really finding a lot on the net so I thought I would try here. I know they are hard to find but are they collectable and do they perform as good as a new Hot Rod Deluxe? What price are they bringing in todays market?

Thanks
Floyd

There's a "Hot Rod Deluxe" and there's a "Blues Deluxe" but I'm not aware of any Fender amp called a "Hot Rod Deluxe Bluesman". Can you cite a source?

We've been through this before, and IIRC it was possibly some customized HRDlx, not anything that Fender produced. In the previous go around, I believe that there weren't any pictures or much info posted by the OP in that thread either.

However, I believe that bluesky636 named one of his amps a "Bluesman", a 5F6A clone IIRC. Not sure if that is his name for it or the kit name. :?:

OK, I found the thread. It was the "Blues Baby" that didn't materialize, and apparently, the "HRDlx Bluesman" is just another FSR, which is basically a standard HRDlx with a different speaker, blue vinyl and blue knobs. Nothing really "special" IMO.

Edit:
DOH! Beat me to it again!

Well it seems you've found at least some of your answers.

Floyd, you do realize it's just a HRDlx with blue knobs and blue vinyl or Tolex or whatever the covering is nowadays with a Celestion speaker in it right? They did that a lot. Change the color and make it a so called "Limited Edition". There is no circuitry changes. personally, I don't care what color the amp is as long as it sounds great. If it's not the III series, you won't even be getting the improvements that were made to make the amp more reliable. I don't see how a color change makes them more valuable or collectable. You can do that yourself. Old Tweed, Brown, Blackface and Silverface amps had circuit changes that affected the value, not just color and a speaker change. Now all they have to do is put the term NOS, Tweed and Limited Edition and the younger guys have to have them. I don't get it. Just my opinion, YMMV

+1

"Vintage Re-issue" is another great bit of marketing hype.

=1 Vintage reissue. Most are made with cheap components, PCB's ribbon connectors, then when they release a "vintage hand-wired" amp, the price is through the roof for the simple circuits that Leo came up with like a 5F1 Champ for a grand, then on top of that they get some huge artist endorse it "tweak it" and sell it for even more money and even then you still get spade connectors on the switches. Took me less than two minutes to solder mine to the switch.

I still can't get over a grand for a 5 watt one knob practice amp. Some of the pedals I build have a higher parts count and are a little more complex too.

Getting off my soapbox, sorry.

Google. First listing. This was from when Sweetwater sold them.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HRDlxBluesLTD

It's a Hot Rod Deluxe with a Vintage 30. This is the same thing different color.
